Dazzio
Oo I have always wanted to build one of these planes! I will be keeping an eye on this build and I might try to source this kit at a later date. Kind Regards Dazz

Arniec
Hi guys, I have done some work on her. I have been bussy with the nose and the cockpit. Photo's will follow later. Cheers,
Arniec
And here are some pictures. I started yesterday with removing the radar nose to make it a little bit more correct. I have sandwitched a piece of plastic between them to get a little bit wider nose. this will also have to be done with the front of the fuselage to get a better fit later on.After this I put on some putty (twice in two days). The form looks a little bit better now. When the nose was drying I started to build up the cockpit and found that the front wheel bay wasn't a great fit and removed it from the cockpit floor. This gave me more space to move the parts around. I also made a bulkhead for the wheel bay. The bulkhead was made with a contour gage. I will close the front of that later in the build with the nose cone and some plastic sheet. I also removed a part of the wheelbay to fit the bulkhead. And this is a testfit of it all. As you can see I have put on the resting part of the wheelbay onto the cockpit floor to give it more length. I have also been bussy with the engines. I was lucky that I only hade to remove from one of the engines a part of the resin plug. the other was a straight fit right away. I forgot to take pictures of that, but I also drilled out the exhausts. Before drilling And after drilling. A great improvement. That is all for now. AndyC
Watch those tyres Arnold! My basic F7F was ruined in box as the tyres had MELTED the props due to being de-bagged. Apparently there was/is a problem with them and it's well documented... I replaced mine with resin ones
Troy Smith
Regarding the tyres, the initial batch certainly did melt plastic, this was apparently rectified in subsequent issues. The decals may be useable Arnie, I'd test one out, initial decals were done in the US, later done ones done in Mexico look poor on the sheet [from my observations of having too many AMT A-20's kits...] the above look more like the US made ones. cheers T
Arniec
Thanxs Andy and Troy. I have already some resin wheels, so no problem with that. I only discovered yesterday that I am missing a part for the landing gear. O, well I already wanted to get some SAC metal landing gear. So that problem will be solved as well. Arniec
Here are some pictures of the wings and the enginepods. The outlets on the wings are made more thinner than in the kit to give it a better look. Before and after. here in one picture. Here are the engine pods. I have made the under exhaust fairing better. This I have seen in a build from TrickyRich in the Splendid cats build from last year. Thanxs Rich. Before and again after. the tape was used to protect the nice details in that area. The left one is done and the right I still have to do. Cheers,

Brews
Nice. The box art looks familiar ... I'm wondering if I don't have one in the stash. I do know that I have a couple of Monogram F7s, but of course it's a far stretch to make these the night fighters. Watching with interest. I'm impressed already.

Arniec
The wings are done. I have also done some work on the cockpit. I have put on some seatbelts from a Generic set of seatbelts. here are some pictures. the wings I still need to put some mister surfacer 500 into the engine pods seams to get a better look. although the seam were not bad at all. And the cockpit area. front and the backseat. Maybee the seatbelts aren't the correct ones, but it looks better with them. I hope to paint the cockpit this week. Brews
AMT kits have a deserved reputation for ambiguous fit. You're making a great fist of this.

Arniec
Thanxs guys. I hope that Sean is right and I finish this soon. I have already commited myself to 3 more GB's and I am already into another one (F-14 GB). So I hope to get her ready before the end of the week when GB 3 will start. That reminds me to get on with the cockpit from the F-14 as well. But enough talk, here are some pictures of the first painting stage of the cockpit. O, before I forget also a picture of the front wheelbay. after some testfitting I noticed that there was quit a large gap at the front. So I placed a piece of plastic onto it to fill it. It's not perfect, but better than before. That is what I have done today. Detail painting will be done later this week. Arniec
Hi Guys, I have finally finished the detail painting of the two cockpits. I have used some colour to give it a nice effect. Maybee not totally correct, but nice to see. Here are the pictures. Front cockpit. And the backseat. That is it for today. I will be closing the fuselage tomorrow. mungo1974
Looking really nice. Its not such a bad kit i've built 3 or 4 of them since AMT released it in 1995/96. So are you going for a Gloss Sea Blue or Flat Black scheme
