Polikarpov I-185 M-71 ARK models 1/48

Recommended Posts

Hello, it`s me again.

Another soviet aircraft, another new model from russian manufacture. The I-185 is the fourth kit from ARK models. The others were Hurricane and two I-16. All other ARK kits are repacks of FROG, old ICM and so on. The kit looks like old Matchbox kits with poor detailing and wide inside panel lines.

I added some parts in cockpit, wheel bays, installed engine, made a landing light, opened canopy, scribed some panel lines and added the rivets.

The model is painted like a plane from combat testing in 728 fighter squadron, December 1942.

Very neat work, saw this mentioned on Soviet warplanes as a forthcoming kit, good to see it released, and built!

Is the cockpit detail based on photos, or a 'best guess' ?

What paint did you use? AKAN?

cheers

Thanks for all the feedback!

Troy

I based on photos from technical description that you can find here - http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/viewtopic_t_30546.html

A lot of information about I-185 interior and exterior.

Paint - mix of Tamiya colours. I tried to depict the difference in shade panels of metal and plywood. Maybe it's not quite right, but it made the model more presentable and colorful.

I like this aircraft. The best fighter of the father of soviet fighters -Nikolay Polikarpov . He designed very beautiful aircrafts. Your model is very interesting. I think about making this model in 72, and Your link to archives were very usefull.

interesting to know. After seeing this I did some searching, seems there is now a etch set for the kit as well!

This polikarpov is very nice, congratulations Ivan !

I like a lot all the details you built from scratch and the light weathering on the paint job.

Really great looking WWII Soviet fighter.

I like very much aircraft design by Polikarpov . They were beautiful . I think a lot of times about building this model. I see, that is a good idea, because model looks really good.
