andym
The T-90 Russian MBT, The lens on the Shorta box should be purple black NOT RED. When it's switched off, yes. When the Shtora is on it is very definitely orange red with a dark centre (which is what I think modellers are depicting): http://i.imgur.com/Irr3vWm.jpg http://a9.vietbao.vn/images/vi975/quoc-te/75340536-T-90Ashtoraactive.jpg http://defense-update.com/images/shtora-10.jpg http://a1.ec-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/48/45481cd821974d109e0b110d3a7e6604/l.jpg In fact I suspect the lens itself may be clear and the elements behind it give it the darker colour, it's hard to tell: http://cache.ilbe.com/files/attach/images/377678/886/672/065/4744bb30b5b7a0a5e77a542912dd1612.jpg HTH Andy Edited April 28, 2014 by andym
magman2
Most of those pics are photoshopped. RED can be seen for miles, just does not make Tactical sense. For modelers making their kits it's up to them.

magman2
Yes I have seen this video and only proves that RED can be seen for miles, this was a propaganda Video. If you look at the first tank with the lights on, there is nothing but a bulb in the shorta housing. And I say For modelers making their kits it's up to them. Lets agree to disagree

Lets agree to disagree From what research I've done over past couple of days it may be the case that they are electro-optic "dazzlers" that only shine red when a IR guided at round is heading for them, to jam it and break it's lock. So yes they wouldn't be on all the time but would just flash briefly as required. Still trying to research this further. The puzzling thing is IR should be invisible to eyes, however some IR bulbs do glow red. Hmmm...???? Andy Edited May 1, 2014 by andym

Andy Just to throw in some further confusion, some cameras can 'see' IR light that is invisible to the human eye. Most modern digital cameras have IR filters to prevent this, but there are a number of ways of sidestepping this (or just use a camera that will see IR, they are available).
