JackG
Doing some homework on a future build, and I think the attachment on the copula is an AA mount. Can anyone confirm? regards, Jack
Mr Grumpylee
Don't quote me Jack but that looks like a map board stand. I think the AA mount is a single arm? The mk1a had 4 x 7.92 besa machine guns mounted in the turret, this was the AA vickers. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will confirm more for you. JackG
Lee, that is interesting and something new - thanks! I've also seen a suggestion of a sun compass mount? But yes, if you have some better photos, please link. regards, Jack
JackG
Here is another photo, looks to be same idea: ..and these next two must be AA mounts? regards, Jack
Mr Grumpylee
Jack, I'd say the last 2 photos are AA mount, again the top 1 would be for a map board. I hope I'm right on saying all this Lee
JackG
Lee, after some further sleuthing, looks to be a map mount just as you suggested. I've found a similar structure on Humber cars: Now just need more structural info... regards, Jack
Mr Grumpylee
Glad to be of service Jack...not for an ex matelot, think I done us proud, lol Lee
JackG
Lee, I had to look that up - so you were in the navy? That makes it even more intriguing as to how you figured out what it was - or did they have these on ships too? I've further found out that the board was mounted on a pair of spikes welded on the turret roof. Bronco's 1/35 kit of the Humber IV has it in PE form, so I've ordered it to use as a master for another project. regards, Jack
Mr Grumpylee
Hi Jack, 5 1/2 years in Her Majestys Royal Navy. Lol, no we didn't use them on board...could have been interesting I've had a long interest in military vehicles and warfare, far from an expert but like to think I have a small amount of knowledge stored. Good luck with your project Jack. Lee
