Tamiya New Tool 1/350 Yamato +MK1/Pontos PE

Recommended Posts

All that is left now is some dry brushing to pick out details and then some small touch ups in a few areas.

These will be the last set of photos in this build diary, the next set will be in ready for inspection when I get a nice day to get some decent pictures in good light.

Looking forward to seeing this on later today.

I wouldn't give much for the chances of those aircraft if they ever opened up with the aft turret. I read a book about HMS Rodney the other day, and one of the tales that stuck in mind was from one of the aircrew sit-in in his Walrus waiting to be catapulted in action, and A turret opened fire ahead of him, so he had to sit there waiting for someone to fire the catapult as he watched bits fall off his aircraft all around him.

Similar thing happened on the USS South Dakota at Guadalcanal, a 16in salvo over the quarterdeck set fire to both Kingfisher aircraft, causing a significant fire hazard. The next salvo blew both wrecks overboard and extinguished the fuel fire. Don't mess with naval artillery!

Rodney was her own worst enemy. The engagement with Bismarck caused far more damage from overpressure from her own guns than Bismarck ever threatened!

This is an inspirational build Dave. It has certainly moved me to start a similar detailed build (different subject) from watching your careful work and great eye for detail.

It was good to meet you Longshanks and Foxy, its nice to put faces to names

I entered Yamato into the competition and was chuffed to bits to find I was awarded 3rd place.

1st place went to a model that won the IPMS Nationals at Telford

I also picked up a 1/350 Minicraft RMS Titanic Deluxe edition for £30

I wondered into the arena to look at some of the models there.

The ship table was dominated by a glass display case.

Its no wonder the Telford best of show would win, it could not fail to lose.

But very good achievement Dave on your model, seeing it was over shadowed by two larger models.

Your WIP showed the true extent of the work carried out, so third is no mean achievement .

Congratulations mate.

Thanks for all the nice comments guys, Yamato is now put to bed in her box, I have decided to buy some perspex and make a case for her.

I have spoken to my brother is going to pop round soon with his digital SLR to take some pictures for the ready for inspection section, all my pictures were taken with a Panasonic Lumix TZ10 in aperture priority mode, although it does take some fantastic pictures it can be very random if the light is not right.

In the meantime here are some pictures I snapped of the 1st and 2nd place winners

2nd Place

Thanks Tim

To say I was very proud is quite an understatement. I had the biggest grin you could imagine.

Although I was determined to enter her into the competition I genuinely did not think I would place, I was going with the thought that if entered then lots of people would get a chance to see it
