foxy
Hi guy's. Thanks a bunch for all your interest. On the mend and hope to start again soon. With stitches out port and starboard and healing well my mind is starting to think on the ship. A few more day's should see some more progress. Done the main and foremast lower shrouds, but not the ratlines yet, they will come later. Main and preventer stays done on main and foremasts. Mizzen lower shrouds started, the stays from there. Once done will start the top shrouds, this then will tie in the next lot of stays. More soon. Foxy

foxy
Thanks again guy's No rush it is Beefy.Finished the lower shrouds, but for two slack one's.Then its on to the mizzen main stay and the upper shrouds.Using Dafis etched parts for this, with the Heller deadeyes glued to his etched frames. The holes in the tops of the Heller parts need filing out to fit.The dead eyes for this are all the same size so no need to worry about were they go.Note the hooks that need rope attached for the futtock shrouds. So its onwards and upwards. foxy
Gimme Shelter
Hi Foxy Good to see you back - which set number is that please - I was supposed to buy etch set 4 from Dan but haven't got around to it yet as it will be a good year or so before I get to this stage of my pending build. Hope the scars healing nicely by the way, and take it easy. John
foxy
Hi GS mate. Getting there on the healing side, slow but sure, with the mem Sihib making sure I do not drive or lift anything!!!!. As to your question on this part of the build, its plate 3 on his tips and tricks, which I hope you have downloaded from his site. Its free and will help no end with using these etch parts. Hope this helps. foxy

foxy
Thanks Martin and Julian matey's A little more progress with the DE on the tops, having done all main lower stays it was time to check fit the tops DEs and etched supports from Dafis etched parts.First it was to make sure that the Plastic was fixed proper to the etch. Some did come loose.Filed the burr off the top ring and bottom part for the hook later.Next I drilled out the holes in the tops, with six aside on the fore and main masts and four on the mizzen, these were pushed through and left loose till later.Main tops.Mizzen top.Plus the mizzen stays tied down to belaying pins. Now I know why I have not started the ratlines yet on the shrouds. Is a lot easier when you have to work in the middle.Having Dafis KG motives for the fire buckets, this is next to form and fix to the poop deck etched handles. So its taking shape and really enjoying it too.foxy

foxy
Cheers Dan,Kev and GS matey's.Well its on to the fire buckets.First picture is how NOT to remove the fire buckets from the spru.Note the rear of the buckets with cuts out of them.Use a proper cutting tool and leave a bit to allow you to file round.Lucky there are enuff to go round, you need twenty one for the quarter deck.I used Dafis KG motives and with round pliers formed them, then held the bucket and with a spot of CA pressed the bucket to the etch.'Walla'.A few extra's to use later with figures maybe. I painted the buckets leather brown, as new, but they were tarred and turned black. Your choice.Foxy
