foxy
Cheers guy's.Has it been over a year, 'yep it has' Well the boarding spikes are done. this was very fiddly and having to put two layers and line up the holes for the spikes, Well glad I had Dafis help instructions for this part of the build.Next it was to fit both the foremast. Then the Main mast.Note the planking beneath to get the correct height. Thanks again guy's Now its the strapping to hold pikes in place and tidy up. foxy

foxy
Cheers guy's .GS, yep he does seem to have been around for some time now, maybe give him some shore leave.Well one more picture of the pikes.A strap around and some klear should finish this. Then its on to the deck planking. This will be a slow job, but for me will look better than it was in plastic.Once the deck is done its time to turn the ship over and place brass supports that screw on.foxy
Gimme Shelter
Hi Foxy this is looking very good - a quick question if I may. Having just bought this kit, (inspired wholly by your build) - is it worth investing in the scaledecks.com decking for this model? They are a good £70 once they make it through customs from the US - and I'm guessing the kit decking will need sanding down to accommodate the add-on product - your thoughts please? Cheers - John
foxy
Hi john.Well not tried the deck you mentioned, but some friends have, and they like it.You can if you contact scaledecks get the planking changed to what you want at no extra cost. But from what I have seen on this product, it shapes up well.Having used these decks on other scales(pontos for one) they do not need to much work on them once put down. And fold to the shape of the ship well.Hope this helps. Some pictures of the progress with the planking. As I had the wood already for this build I to would have gone down the Scaledecks way.You can see the smoke stack coming from the cooker in this one.Nearly to the finish for the planking.Foxy
foxy
Planking all done including the Poop deck .Now before going any further I have to sort the supports for the base. The kit ones keep snapping and so have some brass ones.Which means a bit of surgery before I can continue.Having read of others having this problem, I am wise after the event, but lucky it can be sorted with out('he hopes')to much trouble. Then its the hatch's and bow end to fit. I will be scratch building the hatch's . Cheers foxy
foxy
The Hatch's for the quarter deck did not take to long to make, I thought the Heller one's were far to low. So here is a rough take of the amended hatch's. After a little surgery they have come up fine, still to complete the one before the mast. And for GS a change of watch, Marine Officer Captain Hatcher is watch of the day. Foxy
Gimme Shelter
Ahoy there Captain Hatcher - nice to have you on-board Foxy's first of the line man o' war. Foxy - I bought 4 boxes of HaT 1/72 Napoleonic British Sailors and Marines # 8098 for my Victory - although a 2mm taller in height that a scale 1/96 or 1/100 crew for the hosting Kit, I think that I may be able to get around this by cutting the base stands off each figure and removing 1mm of chest/body and 1mm from the lower legs. I did an experiment on my half build 1/100 DelPrado Victory and it looked ok. Please can you let me know about the photo etch you have used? foxy
Thanks fella's.J that's a bit drastic to get what you want. There are 1/100 figures around(on E bay)going quite cheap. You can model these easier than the 1/72 figures. If you look back I am using some of the figures you mentioned and just added hats and weapons. No need to be another Frankenstein lol.The etch I use is from Daniel(Dafi)he does an etch set for the 1/100 Victory.Again if you look back at my posts you should be able to discover all you need to know.Cheers Beefy, Have done in the past but not in this scale .Well a picture of the new supports, these are wood ones from Cornwall model boats.Had to pack a slither of wood to make them tight fit to the Keel.Screwed in they are and can be removed to continue the build on my Keel holder.Once finished can add some felt to the base to stop it sliding all over the place.Next it was all the hatch's painted and Klear/varnish coated. Then placed on ship and secured, making sure that other items fitted. The main hatch on the quarter deck was next, made up and painted with the steps at the same time.Added the smaller steps behind the ships wheel. So its starting to come together very nicely. foxy
Cheers Kev and Martin. Well its to the poop deck, that and the furniture I have worked on today. For the poop deck I have added eyelets and beams across the skylight. The skylight is one of Dafis etched parts. Furniture is still being made and don't want to bore you with the same as the Admirals furniture, or similar. Will show an overall picture when its all complete. longshanks
Frank, is there any truth in the rumour that on completion you'll be able to utter a single command. foxy
Thank e shipmates. Well tis early day's and the port side hatch's is next. When she's up and in full sail, then a rolling broadside will do to start, 'don't want her timbers falling apart', that will never do. The crew are few in number as more's need press ganging. But me stout officers will sort that out come the finish. Captains quarters be the order of the day, then it be the channels/deadeye's and chains. No pressure then. foxy
