Victory 1/100 Heller with Dafi detail etching.

Recommended Posts

Hmmm I am not sure if this build wants me to start mine or not..

I think I better have a rest from the big stuff before I start on my Victory. I was contemplating the Caldercraft 1/75 one until I saw the price.. :weep:

Anyway, this build is going to be my Bible foxy as it looks totally awesome. :wow::mike:

I've looked at this build so many times but every update still leaves me gobsmacked, you'd think I was used to it by now, incredible and inspiring work my friend.

Cheers folks and thanks for making me head swell  .

Thanks Warreni mate.

Well have been busy helping one of me son in laws, have managed to do some more however.

With the top gallants all done it was to the Jibs next.

The brass rings were a nightmare on the flying and main jibs.

Here shows the flying jib ring, when pulled strait will hold jib inplace.

Overall picture of the progress so far.

After the jibs will come all the little things like boat Davits etc.

Plus bunting lines, these will hold the shape of the sails much better.

Dafis resin Anchors and figures of Admrl Nelson and Capt Hardy.

Plus figures i have yet to finish.

Boats done and later will place in position.

So end in site on this long long build.

By now I should not be surprised at the amount of detail you are getting into this model but I am. I am still utterly amazed and it will be a very hard act to follow.

Cheers seadog and Martin.

Well still progressing with painting the crew and more ropes etc.

Stalled on the Davit hinges as I have misplaced some of them, Dafi (Daniel) has however got some spares and hope to see him in Germany the end of this month.

( Missed him and his friends last year).

With so many moves from one work place to another I cannot find the opposite hinges for the boat Davits.

They were all made up ready!!!!!. :bangin:

Cheers Dan mate.

Well its to the crew i have been working on, with most altered to handle this ship.

Basic colours applied, now need to fine tune with magnifying.

But you get the picture.

First the marines.

Then some of the motley crew.

Some will go on the lower deck then the boats will be placed.

The bases will be removed once mounted.

Don't look to close as there's still some work to get them right.

I left this thread alone for a while Frank so I could absorb one large chunck in one go and I must admitt it takes your breath away! It's looking even more stunning than I thought it would and I thought it was going to be amazing!

Absolutely stunning and so realistic I would expect it to set sail at any moment.

Thanks for sharing.

Regards

Jim

Is that what the gun loaders were nick named? If so, it fits :D

I think the Powder monkeys supplied the cannon with powder from the magazine, (suspended and copper lined magazine to keep rodents away if I remember my HMS Victory anatomy correctly).

I have a record of being amazingly wrong though :analintruder: :analintruder: :analintruder: :analintruder: :analintruder: :analintruder: :analintruder: :analintruder: :analintruder: :analintruder: :yahoo:

By some of the sources I had the impression, that the boys/kids were not allowed to touch the cartridges and the powder monkeys was the auxiliairy stuff equipped with a wet swab to eliminate loose powder on the deck.

Any of the savants to know better about this?

Yes you are right Daniel.

According to ships standing orders introduced in 1801,no boys are to be stationed in or near the magazines.

The name powder monkey given for a boy carrying is in fact a misconception expression wrongly used by fiction writers.

Confused by the term powder man attached to each gun and looking after the powder box for cartridges( known as salt box).

Boy's were used to pass and carry plus swab as said.

It was smaller men(not boy's) used in the magazines as the hatch to it was small.

Well its been a while since I posted on this build, but some progress has been made.

With the Kitchen now nearly done its back to sorting out every thing.

Got the glass removed and placed on the shelf it will stand till finished.

With the misses wonderfull back ground painting that was hidden.

The base was next with a stain on the cutout for the glass.

I am placing green cloth to the base, top and bottom.

This will take two to do so roping in the misses for this part.

As for Victory, she is in my work shop now so can start again on finishing the rigging and placing figures/boats etc.
