AndyC
Build #5 The Type IX-B's bigger sister - the IX-C. I had so much fun with the last one, I thought I'd add this too. Simple build and exquisite etch...bought at Hornchurch for £7.80. I will have a start on this at the weekend in between gardening stints

AndyC
Got a shifty on with this one as well. Similar construction to the Type IX-B but with some differences... The hull was glued as before and the same with the etch cradle The conning tower is different with a mezzanine level and a gun and shield on the lower level and 2 x twin 20mm cannons on the upper. It would appear that this boat was designed as part of Donitz's "stay on the surface and fight" policy. As before I filled the holes for the plastic railings as I will use the etch again A dry fit after everything was done - you can see the different conning tower Similar arrangement at the power and steering end - I fitted the props with the shafts this time as they were a very tight fit to put them on afterwards as I did on the IX-B. Lesson learnt All primed. The deck will be hand-painted Tan, so I am leaving off all the handrails until after deck painting (including the conning tower deck) She has had her coat of Lt Compass Grey on the uppers and there will be a pic of that in the next update. Ta for looking
AndyC
Update and completion pics. Having sprayed Lifecolor Lt Compass Grey on the uppers and RLM66 on the unders, I followed the scheme in the instructions and brushed some Humbrol 62 Tan onto the decks with the metal areas picked out in Lt Compass Grey. This was then dirtied using Flory washes There was then an intense session of fixing the etch rails and the shield to the conning tower gun Once all the aerials and everything else was fixed...here she is And with her sister Type IX-B for comparison

Will Vale
Great job Andy, it's nice to see the two together. I made the smaller type VII-B and really enjoyed it, I'm guessing these are a bit bigger? How did you get on attaching the railings after painting? They look great on yours, I've always been afraid that they won't stick as well to the paint as to bare plastic. Will
