I was digging through my stash looking for my next build, thinking I would tackle the Academy F-4C that was winking at me (who can resist the Camo?), when this leapt out at me. Now the only thing I can resist less than a Phantom in SEA Camo is a Tomcat...

This will be very much out of the box as I am feeling poor at the moment. Mind you, the level of detail is pretty good (the cockpit is exquisite) and I love the Grim Reapers scheme.

Anytime Baby!

Yes, that's a great looking scheme ! I missed one of these kits at a sale, the last had gone right before I arrived, so I'm curious to see what I missed

Nice choice Tim, this kit certainly builds well from the box and I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself!

My progress on this has been glacial at best. I have, however, managed to put together various sub-assemblies. Progress so far...

Wheel wells. i gave these a quick blast of Tamiya white. They need another coat and a wash.

Intakes. These are not perfect but the intake ramps will hide a multidue of sins. These have had a coat of Vallejo polyurethane filler. I am not a huge fan of it as you cannot sand it easily. However, it does work well for areas such as this as it helps provide a smooth finish.

The engines were painted Alclad steel and given a wash of highly diluted ink.

And this is where it stands as of now. I hope to get this all together over the weekend and looking something more like a Tomcat rather than a pile of styrene!

Progress continues to be slow as life keeps getting in the way of modelling! Anyway, as of now, this is what I have on the bench:

I have made a start on the weapons as well as the fuel tanks. Overall, the fit is pretty good with the exception of the joint between the front and rear fueslage

And the rear sections, which are particularly poor for some reason

Having said that though, the plastic does sand really well and after about 20 minutes of fettling I had this:

I've got the other side to do plus a few other bits to tidy and it will soon be time for paint. Hopefully I can get some more done over the weekend. I have to say, whilst I have only been building this in fits and starts, it is a really enjoyable build.
