Giorgio N
Let's start with some links ! The most useful online resource about the F-14 is probably the site started years ago by Torsten Anft, a real Tomcat enthusiast ! http://www.anft.net/f-14/ On this site it's possible to find many information that will be useful for any build. The walk-around section in particular shows many detail not only of the aircraft but also of the various loads, both cleared and proposed. Speaking of details, of course we can't forget the one here on BM: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234928420-grumman-f-14-tomcat/ I took pictures of the same 161134 heavily featured in the BM walkaround a few years ago for an Italian website, and these are here: http://www.tantopergioco.it/immagini/walkaround/walkaround-aerei-jet/nggallery/walkaround-aerei-jet/walkaround-f-14a-tomcat There are several other walkarounds on the web, in particular it's worth mentioning the ones hosted on Prime Portal: http://www.primeportal.net/hangar/f-14_home.htm
Breaker
Decent set of photos here - http://www.clubhyper.com/reference/f14weatheringdp_1.htm Taken by an F-14 pilot who was also a modeller, focused on the weathering and wear.
Giorgio N
Now let's talk books.... Speaking of walkarounds and details, there are a number of books that can satisfy every modeller thirst for pictures of even the smallest part. The best is of course the Daco book "Uncovering the Grumman F-14A/B/D Tomcat", a true mine for every kind of detail, not cheap but worth every penny (or cent) with 168 pages crammed with pictures all in full colour. This is a taster from the publisher webpage: http://ultra.glo.be/daco/KDCB003.html Years before, Squadron Signal had issued a title in their Walk Around series. This is smaller than the Daco book and the pictures are 50/50 split between colour and B/W. While the amount of details included is less than the other book, I find this still worth considering in particular for those interested in earlier Tomcats, since this is an older title. The same comment applies to the Verlinden Lock-On title, that represents 2 late '80s machines with a decent number of full colour pictures... anyone not willing to spend the money on the Daco book would probably find all the most important details here. The Detail & Scale and the Aerofax books are not bad, they have enough pictures of the main areas and can be useful, although most pictures in both are B/W. Both books are long OOP, and sometime they can be found for cheap second hand. While the D&S book has been superceded in terms of reference about the details, the sister series Camouflage & Markings had two lovely books on the F-14 units, one devoted to the Atlantic Fleet units and the other to the Pacific Fleet units. Now we're talking books from the late '80s again, so they only cover a part of the Tomcat career but for anyone interested in the colourful hi-vis markings of the '70s and early '80s there are really a lot of interesting pictures. I'll add more thoughts on books later.... of course these are only my personal opinions, everyone please feel free to add theirs !
Jabba
Don't forget the World Air Power Warplane Classic on the F-14 Tomcat. This gives a lot of information on the Sqns that used it, the variants of types plus some line drawings that can prove to be very useful.
Giorgio N
While checking my Fightertown decal sheet, I noticed they mentioned that some references on their subjects are available on their website... and here it is: http://www.fightertowndecals.com/reference.html Some very good pictures that will be useful not only for those who use their decals. This is a very nice touch that can be very helpful to modellers
