RNZAF SBD-5 Dauntless

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

First post in a wee while!

Here's what I've been working on - the 1/72 Hasegawa SBD-5 Dauntless with markings courtesy of the old Aeromaster "Royal New Zealand Air Force in WW2" sheet. I've also used the Eduard etch set for the divebrakes - definately NOT designed to be mounted closed!! Hence it looks a bit ropey around the trailing edge of the wing.

Hopefully the pics will show up as this is the first time I've used Photobucket! Preferred Imageshack, but they've gone pay only....

Mike. :)

Very well done!

If it is indeed ropey around the trailing edge, it sure does not show and maybe, just maybe, you are a bit harsh on yourself...

Great model!

Mike

That's a very nice RNZAF SBD-5

From your photos the dive brakes look fine.

Edit Only SBD-5's carried roundels in two positions on wings uper/lower -All other aircraft

in Theatre aircraft had roundels in 6 positions

Some history for you borrowed from the ADF Serials site :coolio:

Very nice!

I'm quite a fan of the Dauntless, after reading much about the Coral Sea and Midway campaigns.

Your RNZAF variant looks excellent.

Nice Dauntless Mike.

I didn't know you could get a 1/72 version.

Might pick one up myself

I put together the 1/32 Matchbox version about 35 years ago and have always loved the aircraft since then!

Cheers

Bruce

There was apparently a boxing of the Airfix one that had them but I've not seen one in the plastic & I think only one made up on the net, I guess that should mean there are lots in peoples spare decals boxes? :)

Steve.
