Julien
Frontier Checkpoint 1:32 Airfix This kit was originally released by Airfix back in 1977. These kits were designed by Airfix for this reason and in their 1/32 scale which all their military kits seemed to come in, and airfix still mention this on the box. The re-release is designed by Airfix to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings this year, and the box is branded as such. The kit is designed to look like many such checkpoints used on the western front in WWII. It features a damaged bridge, watch tower, Sentry box and road barrier. While it may be possible to use some of the parts in a model diorama the bridge is very much toy like. All parts are designed to clip together so no glue has to be used. The bridge has three parts, the main span and the sides. The Watch Tower has approx 14 parts. The main tower is made up from two side ens and two cross braces for the tower. The top part is a bottom and top with four sides. There is then a ladder and searchlight for the top. The sentry box has a front and back. The barrier has four main parts and a sign. The kit comes with a very small decal sheet with a sign and the marking for the barrier; Conclusion I am not sure if this kit will appeal to the serious modeller but it is a nice trip down memory lane. For those with children and still allowed to play with toy soldiers in the age of political correctness it will make a nice diorama to play with.
