Recommended Posts

Hi,

I don't know if someone has any reference pics of tornado HUD covers on op telic?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Michael

The On Target Op Telic publication has a couple of photos where you can just make out a red/orange coloured cover over the HUD.

Love the "Warning Remove Before Flight" legend. As if the pilot would not notice the cover was on!

There were also fabric covers too, but finding pictures online seems to be difficult

I think we all remember some of the crew snags in the 700...

Pilot;

"Pilots wander lamp not working"

Lekkie'

"Switch lamp to 'on'"

For example...

For example...

233 Harrier OCU.

Job card read:

Pilot;

"Guns will not fire"

Armourer:

"Guns and pods not fitted to this aircraft!"

Frighteningly the pilot was a QWI!

Pilot would have to be pretty dumb not to remove that before flight :D

Oh you'd be surprised how thick the growbags can really be!....

If the writing wasn't there I can see the 700 entry being;

Snag; "HUD inop"

Rect; "Bright red HUD cover removed. Unable to reproduce fault"

I once saw the snag 'aircraft appears underpowered' in a 700.

The clearance was 'no fault found, aircraft is a Jaguar'

My favourite memory is of a Tornado incident.

When I was debriefing the Pilot - the FGCS, (Flight Guidance Control System), Chief was debriefing the Nav.

The pilot said, reading the JobCard out as the Nav wrote it up: 'The Radar is inoperative in the OFF Mode'.

When the pilot realised what he had written, hit the Nav with his helmet he was holding.

(The Nav had NOT thought to switch the System ON!)

Cheers, Brian

Had a pal who worked on a Phantom Squadron.

He told me a pilot had entered the snag;

"Something loose in cockpit."

Signed up as;

"Something tightened in cockpit!"
