Recommended Posts

Its about time I got involved in this.

Two from me to start off; two from the 1/12 Armoured Knights Series from Imai

Just a bit started this evening;

Some sub-assemblies;

Some of the joints; wrists, waist, have T pins on them so the parts can move. But this makes it awkward to get a good paint job done as the T needs to be sandwiched between other parts, so I'm removing the top of the T so the joint can just plug in after painting [see the arms on the left; extreme left, altered T, and next to it original T]. I think I'll reduce the neck on the torso; that amount of armour would give a chap a neck like some of those African ladies one used to see in National Geographic. Some joints of the parts need to be reduced, but not all as some would be joints in the real armour. and I'll need to add hinges on a few pieces as they appear to have been left off. The legs are not here as their halves have to sandwich the sabatons and they need prepared first.

I've drilled out all the breath holes on the helm and visor and cut the eye slot in the visor;

Count Philipp;

usually the end of a Knight's carreer, not the start;

Got some work done on Frederick;

Again I drilled out all the breath holes in the visor and cut open the vision slots. These subassemblies are ready now for a primer coat, then the main painting.

Phil's parts have been cleaned up and they're ready for the primer as well.

Each of these knights will get a misericorde from my figure bits spares box as neither kit has one for them and they wouldn't be seen on the battle field without one.

The heads will be getting wrapped in their tin cans soon.

Do you know just how claustrophobic it can be in one of those helms - then having it ring like a bell when it gets hit.? These guys don't want to go in too soon.

Other things took precedence over model building. At last I can spend some time on these.

All the parts got an undercoat of matt black, then painted with Humbrol Polished Steel. They are being polished up now, then will get a coat of Klear for protection, then the details painted in.

Sorry about the rubbish photos; my old Fuji, which I use for this sort of thing, is breaking down. I'll have to replace it, but I'm fussy on what I want.

Great job you are doing. It's a shame it didn't make it but good to see it's still going. Please keep us up dated. :goodjob:

Seconded! I would love to see these finished, a unusual subject and a couple of really nice kits. That's some scary footwear on Frederick... ;)

''Good Grief'', said Charlie Brown.

Is it really over a year since I left off here?!?

After the black undercoat I gave all the armour a coat of Humbrol Polished Steel. That polished up nicely. However, I found the paint tended to come off on my fingers so I gave it a coat of Klear [aka Future] to seal it. The Klear reduced the polished steel look to dull grey steel. Not the look I wanted, and quite frankly, boring to look at. I wanted these as they are seen in the museum in Vienna [afair] with the armour very brightly polished.

Right, thought I, remove paint and start again. But nothing, absolutely nothing would remove the paint on the torsos, legs, gauntlets or a few other parts, excepting only from the arms did the paint come off. All got painted the same way at the same time so why just from the 4 arms? Go figure, as some would say.

Thus, disgruntled and more than a bit miffed I put these in my ''long term MU'' drawer unit and promptly forgot about them, Till last week.

Here's how they look now, the same as after some paint removal;

The armour is a bit more metallic looking that it looks here. In the second group the helm & visor and the elbow cops & wings never got painted.

Where do I go from here? These just need some assembly and details painted in. They'll turn out the way they'll turn out.

Onwards!

From a list of Instructions to Knight; ''After having been knocked to the ground, to get up, first raise up to your knees and hands. But be aware which direction you are facing lest you present your ar-- [rude word for bottom] towards your enemy and one of his archers looses a shaft into your fundament''
