brewerjerry
Hi All well just bought a cheap halton from hannants they are on special .... and going to convert it into a halifax I think the mid upper is the same turret as a defiant turret, ( i have one of those ) any suggestions on thd tail turret, is it the same internals as the lanc tail turret with different canopy ? i understand that the halton cones with all the turret canopies. is the halton clear nose the same as the halifax ? cheers jerry

The tail turret is different to a Lanc AFAIK, the mid upper same as Defiant. AFAIK the glazed nose is the same. This idea has been mooted before, and a suggestion to see if just the Sanger vacform fuselage only could be bought and that used instead. It will be quite a job converting the Halton fuselage back to a Halifax, due to the cargo bay bulge, but also changed windows and I'm sure some other problems. I got a Halton with the same idea but it progressed as far as getting the kit and doing some basic research. I know you are in Canada, note amazon.ca has the two for one Halifax and Welling at war for $CDN 6.28 and post....lots of useful pics here - http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/1856481735/ HTH T
tonyot
I bought this kit in order to build a post war Airborne Forces Halifax with the cargo pannier in the belly but if I remember there are no rear turret parts left over in the kit, the tail has a long faired in section and the nose is solid, although a clear nose part is provided. I was quite daunted about cutting the nose at exactly the right point on what was an £80 odd kit,.....I did ask to buy an extra set of fuselage parts or even better a set of Halifax fuselage parts from Fonderie but I never received an answer to my e mail! I think the post war Halibags were fitted with the same twin .5in Browning turret provided with the re released Tamiya Lanc, so that could be the turret sorted out and of course the Airborne versions didn`t have a mid upper gun turret. Good luck with yours,...mine might just end up being overall blue or as a Temp Sea Scheme/ Azure Blue undersides transport from 301 (Polish) Sqn! and not the Airborne version that I first envisaged Tony
Test Graham
The Halifax had a BP twin-50 turret whereas the Lancaster had a Frazer Nash, but you do have to look closely to see the differences. HP wanted to build the Halifax with a bulged bomb-bay, the same shape as the pannier, to allow internal carriage of the larger "cookies", but the AM refused. Positioning the H2S might have been a problem.
brewerjerry
Hi All thanks for the replies, so it seems the rear turret and bombay are my main obstacles an on line review says the kit has the rear turret glazing, so if i can use the lanc turret interior great then it is just the bombay and windows to sort out just have to wait fir postie now cheers jerry
chillaton
I recently completed the Halton, and I can assure you that the build is challenging enough just to finish without modifying it! Watch out for the fuselage sides being different lengths and virtually no part fitting as intended. I finished up scratch building much of the interior and completely messed up the engine alignment. Enjoy!
Test Graham
Also check the exhaust position, which on the starboard inner engine differs between the Mk.III and the Mk.VI - which I think means Halton.
