annemarie7477
I am new to Britmodeller and I am hoping to get constructive criticism on the kits I have built and painted so far. I need to work out how to post the pictures on here but I have been doing this for about a year and a half and I enjoy it very much. I lost my son in an accident almost two years ago and I fell into this hobby as a means of distraction, little did I know how much it would take hold of me. So,please be honest and constructive. I am hoping to improve my skills and maybe one day enter competitions. Thank you Edited February 26, 2014 by annemarie7477
mhaselden
Hi Anne Marie, Firstly, I'm sorry for the loss of your son - that's a tough ordeal to live through. I'm sure you'll find Britmodeller a friendly and welcoming place. I've never witnessed anything but encouragement and helpful advice (hints and tips that folk have learned over the years...often by making mistakes!) on this forum. I think this is the friendliest, most welcoming and knowledgeable modelling forum on t'internet. Welcome aboard! Cheers,Mark

justin1980
Welcome Anne Marie, Those are really cool, what scale are they! Love Han Solo from a massive Star Wars fan! Is there any other Star Wars figures? Regards Justin

annemarie7477
Thank you, Steve! I only really like the painting part so I try to avoid kits that have tons of building required, unless it's very easy. Justin, I have a kit of Yoad that I enjoyed but I will have to post pics later for that one. I also have a kit of Luke Skywalker that I am yet to complete but will find time at some point, hopefully The Han Solo kit is the AMT Collector's Edition version but does not specify a scale. Here is the link to the same kit on Ebay...http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMT-STAR-WARS-PLASTIC-MODEL-HAN-SOLO-KIT-8785-MIB-SEALED-/271309855407?nma=true&si=2i1fHLYJDpptqU3%252BJ%252Bl2y993GJg%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 As you can see, the paint job on the box art is awful..in my opinion so I tried to avoid using the box as a reference and, instead, I downloaded images of Harrison Ford as Han Solo on Google Images. Thank you both very much for your comments. Edited February 25, 2014 by annemarie7477

Bengalensis
Hello Anne Marie! I'm so sorry to learn about your loss, but I'm happy you found something meaningful to do as a distraction, and even more so that you are showing it here. Good to see Mr. Spock and Mr. Solo, two of the coolest characters ever! Love that. Also a very nice paint job on that War of the World creature, very well done. Looking forward to see more of your work in the forums.
annemarie7477
Thanks everyone. I loved doing the Star Trek away team, especially when I put them all together. I loved the War of the Worlds figure too. I have done another WOTW figure but have not yet uploaded the photos from it. I will do so very soon though
Col.
Welcome to the forum Anne-Marie and thank you for taking the time sharing your wonderful work with us. Those figures are impressive and I for one could learn a lot from your evident skill and talent on display. Capt. Kirk in particular caught my eye as a highly realistic likeness but they are all to a such a high standard. I hope you share a work-in-progress with us during your next project.

annemarie7477
The stone he is standing on is real slate from Ingleton Falls as I wanted a base for he and his little friends to be displayed on. I really enjoyed this kit and it has made me want to do a 1/1 scale Gremlin as I think they have a similar look to them. I have a Mogwai (Gizmo) but fancy doing an 'evil' gremlin. It's payday tomorrow so reckon I'll treat myself. I have so many kits that i have already done and really need to get some pics up on here and see what you all think.

Col.
Yoda does look good as do the snakes. Were they included in the kit or an addition?
annemarie7477
The snakes were included in the kit and I decided to use a clear nail polish (all I had at the time in terms of gloss) which gave them their slimy look
Bengalensis
Proud of his 3D portrait, Yoda would be. The painting is impressive, as is the base. Thanks for showing us.
annemarie7477
Ok, so I've taken pictures of my model collection. Firstly, let me apologise for the background in the images; we are in the process of moving house. The first photograph is of all of them together; obviously not including the ones I have already posted. As you can see, there is quite a mix here and it wasn't an effective way of showing the models so I have taken individual images of them too. The lighting is a bit iffy in this room so sometimes the flash came on and others it didn't. Here we go... The first I would like to show you is the Pegasus Dragonslayer 1/32 scale model from the 1981 film. I decided I wanted to turn it into my interpretation of Smaug from The Hobbit. I painted it in warm tones, similar to the box art of the kit. To make it like Smaug I decided to add gold nuggets to the base and make it look as though he was guarding his loot. I used rubble from model railway accessories and mixed it PVA glue and 'plopped' it around the base and painted it using different tones of Citadel gold. Citadel paints are not particularly cheap but for brush painting, they are excellent value. Very rarely do you need to use more than one coat and the coverage is great. I went into Games Workshop and bought Bilbo Baggins and Gollum for a silly price (they were not packaged and were on display unpainted but I had to pay full price, no matter how much I tried to haggle with the jobsworth behind the counter), I painted them and placed them on the base. This was completed just before the release of the first Hobbit movie. So, here he is...Smaug Next, is Batman, The Dark Knight by Dragon. There wasn't a great deal of painting required but it was still nice to build. Up next is Black Widow from the Moebius Iron Man collection of kits. She was fairly easy to build but her feet looked wrong on both legs. Her hair is famously auburn and I tried to create bronze tones by using some of the citadel gold used on Smaug. Her make up was tricky, some of the examples i had seen on the internet looked a little overdone and I wanted to try and keep it toned down but I'm not if I succeeded with that. I also decided to try a marble effect on the tiled base she came with. I used a grey background with thin black and white paint on a paintbrush and twisted the paintbrush as I moved it around the base. Next up is the incredibly cute, Gizmo. Need I say more? And here is why I rarely do machines...Stephen King's Christine by AMT (new red bodied version). I'm a huge Stephen King fan and have all of his books and couldn't resist having a go at this one. I used a car body spray paint for the body shell. This gave it a lovely gloss finish. I accidentally frosted one of the windows and decided to leave it out as if it was down. One of my favourite kits is next...Horizon's T-1000, played by Robert Patrick in Terminator 2. The kit came with optional versions of the character but I wanted to paint his face so I used this version. I chose to have the bullet blasts on his shirt and the point on his finger because I liked how it looked, even though it is not reminiscent of the events in the film. Next up is the incredibly talented Jim Carrey as the 'Enigma'tic 'Riddler from Batman Forever. The tricky part of this kit was individually painting the ? on his green outfit. It took ages but I think it was worth it. I made his face particularly 'made up' because he was in the film and I think it worked out ok. Now comes my Boris Karloff as Frankenstein's monster. I have recently finished Moebius' Bride of Frankenstein which I have put in a different post. I realise after looking at my original model that Boris has dark circles under his eyes on this version and I actually think my new version is slightly better and that the dark circles were unnecessary. I'm still proud of him though as I love the novel and i think he is a great character. So, I went through a stage of collecting the Batman figure kits and found this delightful kit of Jack Nicholson Joker. I know that when he is wearing this suit in the movie that he had 'paint' on his face of a fleshy tone but I decided to use the iconic white and green combo as I felt it was more dramatic. I enjoyed doing it and didn't panic too much when parts of the white looked patchy as I thought it would look like he had wiped off the 'paint' as he does in the movie. The difficult part of this kit was his pants. i painted each square individually and then used a very thin paintbrush to add the black outlines of the squares. It took a long time but I love how it looks. and continuing with Batman characters, here is Danny DeVito as Penguin. He was interesting to do. Again, i took my time painting the stripes onto his pants and painting the dots on his cravat. I like how he looks because he kinda looks creepy. Next up is Chris O'Donnell as Robin. I got annoyed with this kit and nearly didn't finish it but decided i couldn't leave it unfinished. So, here he is... And now, Val Kilmer as Batman, I wanted this version to go with The Riddler. I think he went fairly well. This next kit was my first (and only so far) resin kit. He came with his trolley but I couldn't do it so I kept it off but here is Anthony Hopkins as the infamous Hannibal Lecter. One of my favourite kits that I have done was Arnold Schwarzenegger as T-800 CSM101 'Terminator'. He was my first 'fleshy' character and although the lighting in the photograph doesn't do it the greatest justice, he turned out fabulous (even if I say so myself). I'll let you decide... Next up are my very first kits that i built and painted. I used Humbrol enamels on both kits which meant a lot of drying time. The kits were together in the modelshop and I had just suffered the loss of my 17 year old son and needed something to distract me. David loved the Spiderman movies and Green Goblin was one of his favourite bad guys. Here they are, great for book ends if I wait them in the bottom, Spiderman and Green Goblin... Next, here is my other War of the Worlds kit, This Martian took a while but i love the shine on it's skin and the detail on the base. The teddy and the red weed look really good and the mug looks great too. It was really easy to assemble and lovely to paint. I decided to add extra detail on the base with 'moss' from railway accessories in the modelshop we always visit. Ok, so I am a complete Avengers nerd. Yes, I know, that makes several of us, lets face it, Marvel rocks. I like DC but Marvel is my favourite and I have a very strange and worrying obsession with Iron Man, well, Tony Stark, ok, Robert Downey Jr. I have been trying to collect all of Dragon's new Avengers Assemble kits. This is Thor. I loved the base on this kit with the sandy, rocky desert floor and the crack formed by Mjolnir. My only criticism, could be my painting, I think that he looks more like Noel Edmonds than he should. Ok, joking aside, this was a fabulous kit as you would expect from Dragon and I really enjoyed painting it. I used lots of reference images from Google and think it came out ok. Ok. So, I saw this lovely 1/72 diorama kit by Airfix. A cute scene with a Tiger and Sherman tank with some ruins and stuff. I thought I'd have a go as I had never done anything like this before. I used some paving stones, grass and rubble to give it some 'realism. The tanks were fiddly to do in this scale but I like the finished product. So there we go. That is everything I have done so far. I apologise for all of the images and text in this post. I hope you like them and I welcome your comments. Thanks for your attention
