jetboy
Hi,i had a bit of a quiet day,so i had a day away from lunar landers and robotic dust scoopers etc, huge lunar cranes,i thought these guys need something to run about with, something quick, and fast,to get from site to site, etc, without the big lumbering robotic vehicles.so i thought it might need something like the lunar rover,of apollo fame, only updated a bit, though i did like the atv designs on the prometheous movie, fast -light....so thats what ive decided to have a crack at...no design..in mind, just using some left over bits up,etc? so i,ll confine these back to the box. right i got these control panels from martin,s models, and they dont look half bad which a bit of B&W,and red on... i had these balloon wheels off a russian missile launcher, which martin did me some copies of.. so i thought id,use these for the rover... so once having decided on the wheels, that gave me some idea of the size,it would need to be,so i started scratting around for a suitable sized chassis,to match the wheels, thought about using this trailer bed as a base first? then maybe smaller wheels,?? even thought of a artic type chassis, using these left over tracked units off the shuttle pad? but no,decided to build the chassis to fit the wheels i first decided on,so ...plastic sheet some square tube, some rod for the wheel stubs.. so now working on the shape.. and trying to use all the scrap bits i could? so got my unpainted control panel... so i had the panel as the main engine part,i needed some tanks for fuel etc, decided to round some sprue up,and use that? a little bit of sanding,i got some passable tanks?? so by now i had a rough design forming,cp panel, tanks, double seat off a armoured car?. so decided that would be the finished size,?? so thats the passengers sorted... so decided to paint as i went along,so time to space weather the rover, using my lifetime supply of space dirt, ready mixed paint, used on top of white, looks ok to me? so once the paint is on,take it back off with cotton bud and some remover,..i like it. so plonk the black on, and rub it off.. so put the space weathering kit away... i like red on white/black,so putting a bit of detail on with paint and cocktail stick.. putting some black on the seat as well.. well i quite like that look.??? so i decided the pilot will need to sit in front, and a bit lower...so using a fork of sprue, and stuck a control panel on the top of some plastic block, got a console? cut some old tube at a angle to cover the sprue, and make it look nicer? built the seat out of sprue, with a hole drilled in,stuck smaller sprue in,and used some old railings as a seat back..and leg ups.. not looking too far away from my original idea? putting some more railing on the seat sides.. so getting the idea now? alongside the original.. decided to put some suspension on the wheel shafts,so made some springs... could,nt make my mind up on what type of mudguards to put on,so thought id have a go at making a mesh side to run along the side of the vehicle,to act as a mudguard???not too happy but started making one to try,?? so,ill post some further pics later ,thanks for looking.. cheers, don

jetboy
hi,prowler, it seems to be a case of,i do this cr**,just so you normal people dont have to.??lol.. and its getting worse,it seems that no one is fetching kits etc,out that people want and need, you.d think in this consumer led society, more short runs of obscure things, could be produced cheaply, quickly,to cope with tech advances etc, Maybe the 3d printer,is the saviour of us all,or will be,if it ever gets cheap for the masses???.anyway thanks for the comment. cheers Don
