Paul A H
European City Fountain 1:72 Airfix It's been a while since we received any items from Airfix's rather nice resin building range, but that has changed this month with the arrival of four new items a Polish bank, a Czech restaurant, European City Steps and this European City Fountain. The first thing I noticed is that they are all now labelled as 1:72 scale rather than the 1:76 scale used for earlier buildings in this range. This fits in with the most recent small-scale vehicles released by the Margate firm, and I wonder if it suggests a permanent change from their traditional 1:76 to the (now) more widely used 1:72 scale. The small change in stated scale (which, let's face it, doesn't really make any difference as far as the buildings are concerned as I'm sure the products would be the same size regardless of what is printed on the box) is the only change as far as I can tell, and this is a good thing as I have long been an admirer of this range. As with many previous items in the range, this is a one-piece model that requires no assembly. Although the fountain appears to be reasonably tough, the packaging takes account of the fact that resin is more brittle than plastic and everything is safely ensconced in expanded polystyrene. As with previous items in this range, this fountain is cast in the usual hard, white resin. The level of detail on this piece is just as good as the other items in the range and you can have a lot of fun painting and weathering the fountain to make it look as realistic as possible. I've painted these building before, and the matt finish of the resin make it very easy to apply paints and weathering powders to.Conclusion Its good to see Airfix expanding their range of resin buildings again as they really are excellent little models. They would look just as good on the wargaming table as they would built into a diorama, and with a little extra work they will look really special. If you havent got any of them already, the can be highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of
marky sparky
I'm glad the length and the width are the same measurements.
