Bill Bunting
Nice update Bill, which markings will you be using? Cheers... Thanks Mike. It will be option B from the kit - white 15 "Daphne C" of VMF-215, Solomon Islands 1943 (same as yours ). I picked this version since it is the early scheme of blue-grey over light grey. It looks pretty certain that Tamiya will release other versions of the kit and I will do one of those in the tr-colour scheme which is my favourite, hopefully one with the red surrounds on the stars and bars! I will have to use the kit decals as this is strictly OOB. I would rather paint the markings or at least use some easier to use aftermarket decals. It is a shame that Tamiya continues to supply these thick decals when it is really their only consistent and is almost the single fault with their kits. ...sigh... Spikelhund
Superb build so far. 92 plus stages. How big are these instructions... Huuuuge... although great chunks aren't applicable depending on various options. I look forward to seeing more progress Bill, keep up the great work. Cheers... Bill Bunting
Well this is the first update in 4 weeks due to virtually no Internet service at my house for that time. Long story short, my ISP provider is the only choice where I live semi-remotely in the country and he knows it. He has too many users on his service and I'm the one suffering. Any way the Corsair 99% done and I will post completed pictures when it is finished and able to connect to the web in the next day or two. To remove the mould line from the tires I put them over a socket driver bit in an electric drill. Using a coarse sanding stick, the line was removed. The tire on the left is done. The absolutely fantastic fit of the kit allows All sub--components to be painted before final assembly. I prefer doing it this way but you have to be sure to match colour tones and density between the parts. Tamiya light grey spray lacquer was used used for the bottom. Gunze US Navy intermediate blue lacquer was used for the top and post shaded with a lightened coat. All painting was with a Tamiya airbrush. After a clear coat of Future/Pledge the kit decals were applied. Careful use of Solvaset decal solution helped them bed down as they are still thick decals but not as bad as some of the older kits. The decals were carefully sanded with 6000 and 8000 grit sanding pads before the second clear coat, after the second coat and then the third coat of clear was applied. This reduces the thick appearance and some of the surrounding border of the decals. After the Future was dry, black, grey and brown oil washes were applied (below) and the excess rubbed off when semi-dry. Finished pics soon. Thanks for looking!
Martian
Lovely work! As you say a great shame Tamiya didn't supply that ignition harness it's absence lets the engine down a bit. I don't think Tamiya's idea with the clear cowling really works either. Perhaps they could address these two issues in the future? They would have an almost perfect kit then! But, as I say your work is exceptional! Martin

Bill Bunting
Well a quick jump to completed photos. I did not post many of the painting since my internet was useless for the last few weeks. You didn't miss much as it is only two colours basically plus washes. More pictures posted over at "Ready for Inspection". Thanks for following!
