PlaStix
A bit of an update.Same as with the Airfix kit, I have given the insides a coat of Humbrol's cockpit green and done some lighter dry-brushing: More later or tomorrow I hope.Comments and suggestions welcome.Kind regards,Stix Edited March 1, 2014 by PlaStix

PlaStix
More work done in the cockpit today with some painting of the bits of individual equipment followed by a wash of Revell's Anthracite. I also made up the seat-belts but haven't taken any photos yet.As I mentioned in my Airfix Spitfire thread I am really enjoying making these Spitfires and it does have benefits building them at the same time.Comments and suggestions welcome.Kind regards,Stix Edited March 2, 2014 by PlaStix
Wolwe82
its going realy nice, the cockpit looks so great! what are you using for wash? i need to find something, what would be fast to work with. Shame flory wash is almost impossible to get here..
PlaStix
Hi Wolwe82, I'm afraid it's only the same wash I always use - Revell's Anthracite thinned down with water. I found it seems to give a reasonable look very quickly and it dries fast too. Kind regards, Stix

PlaStix
Like your pits both this and the Airfix. Thank you hgbn. I actually got the main parts for the cockpits assembled yesterday afternoon but didn't get chance to take any photos. Will try and get some done before the weekend if I get chance. PlaStix
Here are some photos of the seat/ floor/instrument panel units dry-fitted in place on the sidewalls. (I say dry-fitted - I actually had to use Blutack to hold them as there is nothing to keep them in place like there is with the Airfix kit) Like on my Airfix Spitfire thread on this group build I though someone might be interested to see both internal cockpit units side-by-side:The Italeri one of these two units was more challenging to assemble but it looks okay once it's together.Comments and suggestions welcome.Kind regards,Stix Edited March 5, 2014 by PlaStix

PlaStix
Hi Snapper and Deacon, Thank you for your comments. I got some bits done on this Spitfire yesterday including painting the wheel-wells. I hope to get get some photos posted at the weekend. Kind regards, Stix
PlaStix
Nothing particularly interesting but I thought I'd update the progress on both projects. Mostly internal painting, wheel-wells and prop blades on this one but I did get the four parts of the fuselage glued together. As others have mentioned the fit is interesting, to say the least - it took a bit of faffing around to get the cockpit to be in the right place but I think it's there!I shall be interested to see what this looks like once the tape is off!More later I hope.Kind regards,Stix Edited March 8, 2014 by PlaStix
PlaStix
Like with the Airfix kit there's nothing much to report. A couple of photos of the fuselage without the tape and the completed prop. There's a couple of places I can see are going to need work on the fuselage.I've decided to stick with the prop provided rather than try and find a better replacement. On my Airfix Spitfire thread I've included a photo of what I'm going to use for testing some ideas. It's what's meant I've been a bit slower with progress this weekend.Kind regards,Stix Edit: Sorry if anyone has been trying to look at this in the past few minutes - seem to be having some photo gremlins playing about repeating photos! PlaStix
Hi Alex. Stew, Wolwe82 and Deacon, Thank you for your comments. I managed to get a couple of bits done on this one - I'd seen online somewhere that areas of the wings weren't well supported when glued together so I spent some time yesterday fitting Evergreen micro-strip in areas where the parts didn't sit flush. Also, in a couple of places, the parts appeared to sit proud - so I did some filing of those as well. There's also a couple of small gaps that will need some form of filling. I'll get some photos done to show all this before I glue it all together. Anyway - before I can glue the upper parts to the lower one I need to tackle the badly shaped radiators too - I've not really looked at these yet! Kind regards, Stix
PlaStix
First up from earlier in the week, is a photo of the areas on the inside of the upper wings where I've fixed some micro-strip to support areas of the lower wing when they're glued together.I spent a little time trying to improve the radiators but decided for this build not to get too involved (read: I haven't got the necessary skills!) so I've scribed some lines to improve the look of the grills - they were blank - it looks better in real life than it does in the photos - had to get some light from my phone's torch in there to see them but it doesn't cast a favourable light on my efforts. They have been painted with Revell Anthracite and then dry-brushed with Aluminium. The fit isn't fantastic so, as you can see from the photo, a bit of fitting/filling is required. Not a pretty sight! Finally for today I started some work to improve the look of the machine guns - I still need to do some work in the areas around them. All comments and suggestions welcome.Kind regards,Stix Edited March 15, 2014 by PlaStix
Max Headroom
Looking good. Get rid of the raised areas on the leading edges. They're supposed to be dope patches! Trevor
Wolwe82
looking nice stix i m not sure, but the "tear" like line on top of the wing was actualy bulge which were on the very late IXs (these had wider wheels so needed deeper wheel wells), at least thats what i did read about. So i would simply fill the line and keep the surface clean there.
