Speedman Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Build 10 This will mostly be an OOB build with a little work on the wing glove to reduce the gap. Price: £2.98 eBay. I had to throw the box away when I received the kit as it was smelling moldy. But before I did, I scanned the instructions and paint guide on the back of the box. The stars are not very well defined and I'l probably replace these from the spares box. 2
snapper_city Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Always loved the Flogger. I'm amazed the UN doesn't have some kind of arms embargo on your good self as the speed you are building up your forces is frightening... 1
Speedman Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 (edited) I'm amazed the UN doesn't have some kind of arms embargo on your good self as the speed you are building up your forces is frightening... I've been wondering why there's a white Toyota Land Cruiser parked outside all the time... I've added quite a bit of ballast in the main fuselage and in a small section I made just behind the pilot to be on the safe side. I also painted the cockpit and pilot today. Speedman Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 Liquid Gravity. It's very fine, each ball is less than a millimetre so it's great if space is an issue as it gets in every nook and cranny. Just a drop of CA, add the ballast and a few more drops of glue and it sets rock hard in seconds. 2
Speedman Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 I've ploughed through this one today! It's had a full rescribe as the kit engravings weren't very deep and would not have taken a wash well after priming and painting. I've also thinned down the wing gloves which has reduced the gaps around the wing. I will be gluing the wings in the swept back position, I just left them forward to make it easy to fill and sand. 1
Speedman Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 I've modified the exhaust so it now has a tube running inside the fuselage, much better to look at than the blanked off kit part. Some of the gear doors are on, I scratch built the nose doors to replace the thick kit offerings. Things like the intakes, LERX and pylons have been added and it shouldn't be long before I'm ready to prime it. 1
Speedman Posted March 9, 2014 Author Posted March 9, 2014 I realised the LERX was too thin so I spent some time bulking them out and blending them into the wing root. After this came primer, pre-shading and some light blue for the undersides. 2
Speedman Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 Cheers! Camouflage is finished, now it's ready for some post-shading and a few coats of Clear. 1
Speedman Posted March 22, 2014 Author Posted March 22, 2014 The decals are on, I'm a little disappointed as they are badly out of register but with no replacements available I'm stuck with them. I've already given it a few coats of Clear and will be attacking it with my Pitt pens next. 4
Speedman Posted March 23, 2014 Author Posted March 23, 2014 Cheers I fitted the undercarriage and exhaust last night, I also painted the final details ready for a final matt coat. Should be finished today. 3
PlaStix Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 That is looking excellent! Been well impressed by your builds - don't know how you manage to make so many, looking so good, so quickly! I seem to be taking forever on just a couple.
Speedman Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 Finished! Overall a fun build but like most of the Dragon stuff from the early 90's there are quite a few inaccuracies. The nose gear, the ventral tank, the main gear doors... Not to mention the out of register decals. More photos in the gallery. 2
snapper_city Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Great job & a lovely scheme. Also the bombs seem out of scale but who cares as it looks so good.
stevej60 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Great job,NATO has expressed concern over the build up of Russian aircraft in your house!!!
Speedman Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 It's OK, I'm starting a triple build of F-14s next week to balance them out
Natter Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Inaccuracies aside (probably fewer that the Airfix 1/144 Flogger) that's a nice very build indeed.
