1:72 - Lightning T.4 and T.5 from Sword

Is there a decent modern release of decals for the ETPS T5? I fancy adding to my collection of test schemes.

Should be easy to do without a/m decals, Just the appropriate serials and red painted areas where appropriate.

So who has taken the plunge and pre-ordered unseen?

Yep, I've gone and done it again! I did this with the Trumpeter Lightning and pre ordered 2 of each mark. It would appear that despite my earlier comment about waiting I've taken the plunge for one of each, well it's only money, sanity, dwindling room for stash etc.

I'm still managing to hold out, but it's been a very close call a couple of times recently...maybe I'll just pre-order one? You know, just for curiousity's sake....

Go on, you know you want to. What can possibly go wrong (Trumpeter springs instantly to mind)?

That is exactly what keeps springing to my mind...!! Still, if Sword get just the nose right, we could always graft it onto an Airfix Frightning & use Ali's small tank conversion.... !!:mental::D

Haha. that actually makes sense (or am I just that desperate for a decent T Bird Lightning?). A half completed Neomga conversion is lying unloved in a box next to my modelling table. It keeps getting taken out after I forget how bad it is and think I will finish it then reality sinks in again and it dives back into the box (think Trumpeter crossed with Matchbox T55 in resin and you are getting close). I should really just launch the thing into the bin but can't bring myself to do it.

Ouch...!!

I have an Aeroclub conversion on the go, the problem with that is, being combined with the old Airfix F1/3 kit, it's starting to show it's age, & I just think it'll look out of place next to the shiny new Airfix kits & their associated A2Z conversions!

And while my 'idea' may make perfect sense in modelling terms, I'm pretty sure SWMBO will say it makes no financial sense whatsoever...!! :chair:

The Xtradecal sheets for the T birds look nice enough. Unfortunately there seems to be a lack of pilots names on the sheets. Having looked at the Xtradecal F3 sheet, this has no pilot names either. I find this quite a disappointment.

"End of March release????" Still not released, any-one got any info of when were getting our grubby mitts on these, for those of us that are impatient! :)

Very much looking forward to these and only joking I can wait!

I was talking to the guy that runs one of my local shops about the Sword kits at the end of last month and he said he couldn't get a real commital answer about exact Lightning kit release dates when he talked to the people at Sword.

Just an update, the sprue shots for both versions are up on the Sword site.

Don't seem to be able to paste the links in though!

Regards

Rob

Thanks. Looking good, plus Redtops and Firestreaks so one or the other can go on my MPM/Xtrakit Sea Vixens.

I can't see any similarities to the trump kit whasoever anywhere!! So thats a big plus. The rear end doesn't have an overly pincehd area as per the Tump kit or spurious rivet detail. So another big plus there. If anything it bears a stronger resemblance in certain areas to the lovely 48th Airfix Lightnings!!

But, I'm not so sure if the T.4 had long cable ducts without looking it up. Minor issue for me. I ahve commented before about the captioning on the box so won't go through that again. But both the 'Lakenheat' and Alconbury ones are Lightnings recorded at airshows I suspect as I definitely remember XV328 at Alconbury the year mentioned. Note the incorrect serial for this one quoted as XS328 on the caption. And..., I hope that the font the serials/codes shown in the illustrations are not reflected in the decals!!!
