Live_bait
This is, IMHO, the sleekest of all Merlin powered Spitfires, Supermarine Spitfire MkXVIe RACER 6. Cooper Air Race July 1949. I’ll use Lifelike decals 32-011 and Barracuda post war 3 slots wheels with radial thread. Edited February 16, 2014 by Live_bait

somnas
As said before, you're just pounding out these great kits! I wonder when I will build my first Tamiya 1/32...
gingerbob
Hah, you notice that on the decal instructions they've got the codes reversed? Unless there's more to the story... bob

Live_bait
Fuselage and wings assembled, this kit is a dream, gets together beautifully. Next engine assy and cowlings so I can start the painting process. Edited February 14, 2014 by Live_bait
Live_bait
Engine assembly completed with painting and weathering. Cowlings with magnets and canopy masking next and this baby is going to the paint shop. Edited February 15, 2014 by Live_bait
somnas
You're starting to be able to build these kits on routine, that engine ended up painted and in place very quickly!
Live_bait
Thank you guys. It's just a matter of getting the parts together, fit is so good that most of time is taken by painting and weathering. Also last few days I've been having lots of free time. Live_bait
Canopy inner frames colored with XF-71 cockpit green before primer coat. Then primer applied and shading along surfaces features such as panel lines, riveting and cowlings camlocks. The idea is to help the painting process to generate volume.
somnas
Looking good! How do you go about painting the inner frame of the canopy? Just some manual masking I suppose?
Live_bait
Maybe I didnt use the roght words, I mask the canopy on exterior surfaces with the masking provided by the kit. Then I spray the interior green color XF-71 so from inside it the cockpit color can be seen. Well painting for me is the funniest part of modelling. Gradually spraying coats of Xtracrilix Medium Sea Grey. Random streaks are applied so faded effect is shown. Tamiya XF-89 Ocean Grey 2 is applied on upper surfaces in similar pattern. colin
Do you got back over your preshading where the green is to go
Live_bait
I draw the pattern and do more post shading with the dark green. I paint everything freehand, no templates. I could do everything with post shading but I like to pre shade more than post. Here Ocean Grey 2 XF-81finished.
somnas
Same here, I would buy models with all sub assemblies already complete if that existed but maybe then I wouldn't appreciate the painting process as much.

woody37
Another stunner in the making. I wish I could do the camo freehand like that, it would save me a fortune in masking!!
Live_bait
Thank you Woody, More dark green painting advancement, there was lack of concentration at some point; I put dark green on the port wing tip, and pattern isn’t what should be. No worries I’ll spray ocean grey again on that spot. Edited February 18, 2014 by Live_bait
Live_bait
I think I’m getting satisfied with camo scheme. Now I’ll seal the whole thing with Pledge and getting started with decals. As mentioned before the yellow band will be masked and sprayed after decals leaving the decal No 6 for the last.
