luis pacheco
In 1984, in Los Angeles which is a large city to be host to the Olympics, the Federal Government, Los Angeles Police Department and the military most feared terrorism. Under the circumstances, the state-of-art monster helicopter was produced on the pretext of quelling terrorism and guarding a crowd. The special helicopter called “Blue Thunder” was planned to be subjected to a test operation in the Los Angeles Police Department Air Support Division, and the veteran Frank Murphy was chosen as the test pilot. Murphy found, however, that Colonel Cochrane, who was at feud with him in the times of Vietname War, was involved in the development of Blue Thunder, and had feelings of anxiety. In fact, government important people including Colonel Cochrane were planning, in secret, the THOR (Tactical Helicopter Offensive Response) project = Tactical helicopter attack operation, in which they devised a stratagem to produce Blue Thunder in large quantities and use them as combat weapons to command cities across the United States in their hands. Murphy happened to know the stratagem, robbed Blue Thunder by himself, and flew in order to frustate the plan. Then, Murphy evaded attacks from SWAT helicopters and F-16 fighters. Finally, the Hughes OH-6 Cayuse operated by Colonel Cochrane took off, and the life and death battle was kicked off. “Blue Thunder” has a rugged body style and is an armed combat helicopter equipped with gatling electric cannon on its nose, witch shoots 4000 bullets a minute. First the shape of the seats is totally wrong. I don´t know where Aoshima took the reference but looking to the picture they are out of shape by miles. http://www.flickr.com/photos/garytmason/4737719056/in/set-72157624480472426 The solution is to build by scratch. I finished the back panel. I used pens to mark DVDs. It was the best technique to paint the tiny buttons.

Caerbannog
Very cool - I was quite impressed by the movie at the time. Needless to say I was very young then :-) I sadly missed the Aoshima kit when it was still available - nice to see a build of it here. Skyhawk174
Nice work so far. I built the Monogram kit (I think it was Monogram, it was so long ago) and I loved it. It looks like Aoshima did a fairly decent job of this kit. I really like the work you have done on the seats, nice clean work there. John_W
When my brother was at BATUS, one of their Gazelle pilots got to fly the "real" one. Apparently it handled like a pig and couldn't go over 25 knots because of the bodywork.
aka1878
I remember having the Airwolf vs Blue Thunder argument at school - I think we decided on 'both are wicked'. But then you do when you're 7.
shark 64
Nice cockpit work. Had to pleasure to work with Daniel Stern (JAFO) and we talked about that helo during the movie. He wasnt crazy about flying it, he said picture and anvil with a rotor on top....that sums it up. Oliver

luis pacheco
I think the always grueling stage "putty-sanding" is over. Now is compose the entire cockpit and starting to paint.
S5 modeller
Looking good. How did you find the fit of the fuselage? I have a kitech repop of this kit, and the nose on one side is twisted, also there is a lot of flash on it. The canopy on mine was quite badly fogged, and totally unuseable. Jockster is building one in the under a tenner group build, and he had the same problems. What colour have you used on the interior? Looking forward to seeing the end result. Matt. luis pacheco
Hi Matt. This is the 1:48 Aoshima kit. The Kitech is 1:32. On the interior I used the H337 from Gunze.

luis pacheco
It was time to apply the Kosutte Ginsan for chroming the exhaust nozzle. Applied with a cotton swab after having painted the piece with shiny black.
