Vought F-8E (FN) Crusader, 12 Flotille 1987 - FINISHED

Well... after finishing the Rafale M, I got carried away with the French Navy and decided to try my luck with the Revell F-8E Crusader, no updates just straight out the box! I will, hopefully, recreate a bird from 1987 aboard the Clemenceau!

So first pics coming up and thanks for watching!

Quick update!

I am having a really nice time with this, although it is being a real challenge to me because of the poor fit and massive gaps to fill!

Anyway here are some pics:

That nasty piece of plastic must be cut and trimmed

I want the fueling probe compartment closed, so that posed some problem because the "door" had big gaps to fill!

Hi everyone!

Just a quick update! I have painted the Crusader (and cursed the sorry excuse for the airbrush setup that i have!) and put on the decals! Next I will lay another coat of the portuguese version of future and do some weathering work before the flat finish!

here are some photos and I apologize for the quality but they were taken with my phone!

Thank for looking!

Hi Iuri,

you've built a super F-8! French Navy makes for great subjects and you've taken full advantage of it.

Does the box supply the bigger elevators found on the French Crouze?

Congratulations

Thanks JR!

Sadly there are no options for the elevators in the box.

Fantastique!!!

Your build, especially the cockpit and pilot, is excellent; but, and don't let me dishearten you..

...if you don't mind me suggesting you tone down the 'dirty' appearance if you can. There are a couple more stages you have to go through to get her perfect and the 'final' finish is the only aspect that spoils your model.

It's up to you, but I suspect a gentle clean up with cotton buds soaked in a suitable solvent; followed by, a long period of drying/hardening; a very dilute brush wash all over, of say - matt light grey, and then an enamel varnish will assist greatly.

At this scale you shouldn't do too much damage and I think, with any corrective process you might apply, you may even hit upon a better technique in your experience.

Arrrgh! I'm a bad boy for the criticism, but I can't help it, and this is my reason, especially after noting what a good modeller you are!

"Other, better, modellers may disagree, and I hope they will and can suggest a better restorative process, if in their opinion, this Crusader requires it."

Respectfully Yours,

Nobby57 :)

Thank you for your feedback, Nobby57! I am still starting in this great hobby and in the stage of just building for fun and hoping in the end it resembles the real thing! But with feedback and suggestions like yours I hope to learn and be a bit better with each build, hopefully!

Best regards,

Iuri

I'm sorry Luri, I suspected as much and don't let me put you off...your modelling skills are so evident.

Thank you also for your understanding as I felt I shouldn't force you anywhere but improvement.

You can critique my first 'renaissance' build soon...warts and all. :analintruder: I'll keep you posted. :)

Top work! how did you get the panel lines to stand out so well? Really love the Crusader.

Val

Hi Val! the kit has raised panel lines so it was just getting the wash around them... I used Vallejo, flory models wash and the tamiya set.

Best regards,

iuri

Cool, I have a few kits with raised panel lines, and I can't be bothered to rescribe them (and I don't have the skills!!), but I'll have a go at doing them as you suggest and see what happens :) thanks for the tips!

You are welcome, Val! I am sure there are more effective ways to this and a more experienced modeler can help you, but I wish it works out! :)

Hi

Just looked at your finished Crouze. Nice build indeed. I will have to agree with Nobby 57 about the weathering...a little bit on the heavy side.

I have been down the same road when it comes to weathering. Best of luck with your next build.
