After the rather nice news (to me anyway) of Tamiya's new tool 1/72 F-16CJ, I decided to have a gander at what else might be coming. To my utmost surprise, I found this solitary image off a built up Ducati 1199 Panigale. Clearly a quick build 'test shot' but it does tie in with previous rumours of an impending Ducati release...

This image was found on this blog http://tamiyablog.com/category/future-releases/ with the 1199 being the first image on the seventh row down. Apart from being photographed at this years Nuremberg Toy Fair, no scale or other identifying text can be found on this unofficial blog. Also no other information has come from or can be found on Tamiya's official channels.

Please feel free to add or correct any information presented. I really do hope this is the next new tool 1/12th scale motorcycle release...

******* A YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This has been on the cards for AGES from Tamiya.

I have a friend in Japan very closely connected with Tamiya so i'll try pump him for information, but I do know that its for 2014 release, (probably last quarter) and that its not going to be the only 1/12th release this year....

Damn its a nice looking bike...

Another attempt to woo us into a false sence of security, that Tmaiy are actually going to give us some new bike kits. I'll not hold my breath, as I can't afford them once they do appear!!!!!!

Call me peed off Mr Tamiya... I've actually given up on your company, Sionara.

Mad Steve,

Thanks for the info, the prospect of some more releases is beginning to toy with the mind... The excitement is beginning to break through, I must keep composed . I do agree that the wait for Tamiya to release a non military, non RC product is frustrating but they don't half blow your mind when something does come up, 1984 Honda NSR500 V4, 1966 Honda RC166 for examples. I seriously regret, auctioning off most of my Tamiya 1/12 collection (including a mint Honda CR250R Red Rocket) to buy some of those flaming fighter jet kits <_<.

I'm really hoping these other prospective releases are new tool kits, not a 'full view' limited edition or last years Yamaha YZR-M1... It would be very nice if Tamiya started to focus on road/off-road motorcycles again.

Hiya Levi

See the problem with Tamiya, is that its domestic market first, worldwide market second which eventually led to the culling of the off road bikes, they didnt sell that well in Japan, especially the BMW, Honda NXR and KTM, which is why they are so hard to get hold of today.

Also the thing with Tamiya is that anything Honda or Yamaha sells, which is why we have 11 versions of the YZR -M1... and the reason for them not releasing 'obvious' choices like the Suzuki GSX-R 1100 etc is licensing issues.

A while back, the Tamiya head honcho's did state that they were going to kill off the 1/12th range of Motorcycles, so that they could concentrate more on other area's, but it seems that they have had a change of heart (thankfully) and are making a go of it again.

It would be nice if they had the same gusto they had back in the 90's and started releasing some real scorchers, not just re pops of the YZR or re engineered kits with clear parts. They also have Hasagawa and Fujimi biting at their heals pushing out bike kits, so, we shall have to see what transpires.

The friend i have that works with Tamiya did say that the Ducati Kit is their best yet, and there are a couple more on the way, and I for one cant wait to see what they are going to bring out next.

Just wish they'd re release King Kennys YZR... REALLY want one...

Thanks for the in-depth reply Steve, totally agree and understand why this is the case with Tamiya, still drives us patient lot nuts though! Surely the MX/Trallies and other non-Japanese products such as the Ducati's were just as successful in the export market? The prices on Ebay show how much folks want them. Bit disappointing to discontinue most of their catalogue from that perspective... Anyhoo, I'm looking forward to what else is coming later in 2014. ^_^

Tamiya America has some more details with regards to the forthcoming model, no images though...

1/12th.....wahoo!

Thanks Riggers, topic title be amended soon. Appreciate the enthusiastic responses folks, bought some cheap Tamiya motorcycle kits on sale at Hobbycraft, just couldn't help it...

Hi Folks,

Just to keep this thread up-to-date(ish), the Ducati Panigale S (kit no.14129) is due for release in March. Here are two more images from the Hiroboy.com Facebook page. This promises to be a stunning kit, just look at the engine...

Unofficial roumours are that there will be six new 1/12th scale motorbike kits this year. From a quick browse of Tamiya.com there are two more 1/12th scale motorcycles due for release in March. Unfortunately, they are just re-released pre-built 'Masterworks Collection' kits:

1/12 Honda NS500 1984 No.5 (Takazumi Katayama)

1/12 Honda NS500 1984 No.1 (Freddie Spencer)

Logic will suggest that these kits will count towards the 2014 new releases, which leaves three more kits pending. I'm becoming slightly sceptical of any more than one other new tool kit being released this year, the other two may just well be YZR-M1's with new decals -_-. Well, only time and those in the know will tell...

Hiya Levi...

Just to add to that.

Apparently 4 more 1/12th scales to be released, but I believe they are re releases and 2 more 1/6th scale kits, also re releases...

Thanks for the information Steve, much appreciated. In all honesty, the 'Masterworks Collection' Honda NS500 announcement was a bit of a downer but on the other hand, the BMW R80G/S and Honda NXR750 possible re-release was a welcome surprise! I had a quick look at the thread in the non-military section... If Tamiya were to just continue re-release their catalogue over the coming years (with the once in a blue moon new tool) I'm sure most of us modellers will be quite happy... ^_^

I would love to be able to get a fair shot at buying the Suzuki GSX-750's again...

Just an update folks,

The Panigale S is now available for pre-order at HLJ for a very reasonable £18.70 at the moment. I've pre-ordered one, just have a look at the images of the built up model... Absolutely stunning!

Freddie Spencer NS500, bloody hell, made that in 1987/88 I reckon. Along with a Kork Ballington KR500.

Could see me going for a Fast Freddie one again.
