Jabba
Have you decided upon which Akan paints to use for the Egyptian colour scheme. The reason I ask is that I have looked at the amount of different paints that Akan provided and it has confused me a little. Any help will be very grateful. Marlin
Hi Jabba. For the beige the jury is still out on that one. I'll go with either 79000 Beige Solid or 71085 RAL 1001. The lighter green, will be 70007 BS 283 Aircraft grey green For the underside 70023 BS 697 Light Adm grey. These two later cololurs should be the correct one according to Mr Cooper. But as for the darker colour in the Nile Valley camouflage I've not yet decided. I think I read somewhere that's it's a dark grey colour, and somewhere else that's a dark green. Marlin
Hi. I'm almost too busy at work right now. And with that I'm too tired when I come home to do any building on my MiG's. But tonight I managed to steel me some time. I'm almost finished with the cockpit and wheelwells on the Bis. And winter came back to my part of the world this evening. The were some sleet in the air when I came home from work. And now a few hours later we've got 20 cm of very wet snow. This is more than we've had during the winter. And last week we had temperature almost touching on +15C. To be continued... (not the snow, I hope ) /Bosse

HTH /Bosse I thought that the darker colour was a Dk Brown. Nice start to the Bis, but I don't envy the weather that you have. Marlin
A Dark brown? Well I'm open to suggestions. I'm at least a fortnight away from painting so I have plenty of time to trawl the net for more information. /Bosse
SaintsPhil
Nice to see the bis out to play, shame about the paint delay! I would have said its a dark green, or even a dark grey green in the Nile valley camo. That being said I'm sure I'll be corrected! That's some snow you've had! I expect we'll get some here in June or something this year....
Marlin
Thanks Phil. A dark grey green sounds about right. Hopefully Mr Cooper will along and clarify things. Snow isn't my kind of weather. But we are to expect temperatures between +8-10C for the weekend so this will all go away again. I don't think you in the British Isle need or want anymore water from the skies for a long time, so lets hope you don't receive any of our white stuff. /Bosse
Tom Cooper
Aw... please help me now: are you talking about the darker of two camo shades? If yes, gauging by the box cover, I think the designers of this kit envisaged the use of black green (BS381C/631 or Humbrol 91), although what was drawn on the box cover looks rather like Olive Drab (BS381C/437, or Humbrol 155). Provided this is the case, either would be correct (especially for one of examples with serial applied in black colour). Reason: Egyptians were next to never using any kind of brown colours to camouflage their aircraft. I'm not sure what Bosse might want to build, though. If he's going for one of examples as in service in the last 10-15 years, then it seems that they're now indeed applying something like chocolate brown (Ukrainians definitely did so when they overhauled a batch of Egyptian MiG-21MFs and MiG-21RFs, in recent years). But, in such case you need white serial numbers for this MiG (plus Sidewinder launch rails and AIM-9N/Ps), Bosse. Marlin
Thanks Tom. My egyptian MF will be the boxcover version. Have I understood it correctly if I say that the colours are. Beige 388 Black green 631 Aircraft grey green 283 Light Adm grey 697 With orange id-fields. /Bosse
Tom Cooper
Oh my, there are two threads about the same modell with wrong painting instructions.... Anyway, please refer to my posts No. 49 and 54 in this thread for details.

Marlin
Hi. At last. This evening I again managed to steel me some time at the bench. The Bis is almost ready to close the fuselage. I guess this is the final pictures before that happens. Then I just had to try the lilac primer from AKAN on my MF. Looks great I think. My fourth and hopefully final order for awhile has now been sent to Helsinki for some more little AKAN bottles. So I now think I'm set for all my planned russian built arab planes I've got planned for this year. To be continued.... /Bosse

Marlin
They sure have. And I'm getting the whole range of Soviet/Russian colours. The rest will be on a need it basis. Right now I got about 15 MiG's and Sukhoi's in the stash that I want to build. /Bosse
SaintsPhil
This is probably 'old news' but I found these 2 sites very useful when cross matching AKAN http://www.hobbycolours.com/blog/akan-paint-charts/ http://akanshop.com/product_info.php/info/p524_Beige.html

Tom Cooper
Looks great I think. Absolutely. When I think of what the surfaces of such kits were looking like some 20+ years back... That said, your dedication is even more amazing. My hat's off.
Marlin
Thanks alot Tom. I think I've nailed the beige colour. Pictures will come tonight. /Bosse
Marlin
Hi Gang. So have I've nailed the Beige colour or I'm still not there? I've painted one wing with AKAN Beige and the other with RAL 1001 Both wings are painted with BS283 Grey/Green Right now I think the Beige is THE Beige I'm after. /Bosse
Marlin
Hi again. This shows the difference in primed plastic and bare plastic. There is a slight lilac hue to AKANs primer. /Bosse
