SaintsPhil
Good Morning BMers, I thought if share something with the masses, which I hope will be of use! Vehicle modellers out there will no doubt know of Hiroboy and their range of Zero paints, they offer matches to car manufacturers colours. I have been using them for a while, as they sell Alclad paints and primers and they are just up the road from my work so I can collect, abounding the well documented clamp down on posting paints! On my last visit I got chatting to Steve about custom mixes of paint, mainly if he could mix BS381 paints. He informed me he could, he also does the RAL system. With the Mig21 GB approaching I was after some Light Admiralty Grey, which isn't available in my usual GSI Mr Color Range. I hate mixing paints and I'd have to buy some to mix anyway so I thought I'd give the Zero paints a try. Having droped Steve an email he sent me a comprehensive list of BS paints he had the information for to mix and he could mix the one I wanted, plus out of interest I asked about Medium Sea Gery, Dark Sea Grey and Light Aircraft Grey, all of which he can also do. I collected the paint on Friday and tested it over the weekend. It's pre thinned for airbrushing and sprayed beautifully, just as well as the GSI Mr Color. The color matches perfectly to the swatches I've seen, and looks a good match to photos of Migs underside. Steve was quick to point out it's not acrliyc paint, it's solvent based, just like Mr Color, it thins and cleans up with Cellulose Thinners. My main reason to share this was that the list Steve provided was very comprehensive, covering some paints that I've not seen in other model brands, except maybe some of the enamels (Xtracolour or colourcoats). I can't get on with spraying enamels, so if you're like me this maybe of use! I haven't put the list up here, as I've not asked Steve if it's ok and it's in Excel format so I'm not sure how to post...if anyone wants a specific colour checking I can look, or email Steve directly and he'll send you the file. I was going to add some pics of the test sample I sprayed, but I've just realised I took them on my iPad which is at home...I'll update this post later with them. I hope this is of use to someone at least, I'm going to go back and order some more paints from him soon. Here's a link to the site http://www.hiroboy.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=866 If there's enough interest he may add some 'military' paints to his standard range. If you're stuck for an exact match this well worth considering. Phil Edited January 27, 2014 by SaintsPhil
