JOCKNEY
Thanks Enzo & Paul for allowing Dylan my youngest son to post his first group-build. We started the model recently, and it wasn't till we had started that it occurred to me it might be eligible for the trainer GB. Below is a photo of what's left of the box we got the kit in a while ago, I'm sorry there isn't photos of the parts on the spues but we didn't know we would be going global at the time ! The parts were mostly free of flash and went together well, Dylan had to have a go at filling for the first time as the gaps between wings & fuselage and the halves of the fuselage left a bit to be desired. I wanted to try to mask the canopy but Dylan said he could paint the frame with a brush, the result is very good until you look at it head on and realise the framing is squify on the canopy not Dylan's fault, I was tempted to clean it off & mask up but I didn't want to put him off so it will stay as it is. He has painted the underside with the splinter pattern of greens on the topside to do, it will have Luftwaffe markings. More photos will follow as he progresses, any feedback that encourages him and allows his dad to continue building kits would be greatly appreciated. http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy113/Jockney007/image_zps4610cd0c.jpg http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy113/Jockney007/image_zps7e388059.jpg http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy113/Jockney007/image_zpsa7149fa3.jpg http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy113/Jockney007/image_zps2e10553b.jpg http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy113/Jockney007/image_zps02676910.jpg http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy113/Jockney007/image_zps7cb2b411.jpg Cheers Pat / Dylan

He's only 4 months old at the moment! Hi Paul I could tell you the story of what happened when Dylan and his twin sister Rosie were 18 months and decided to "help me" when painting a Sopwith Pup, but in case you are from social services I'd better not. Who would have thought one small pot of Green paint could cause so much chaos ! Cheers Pat
Paul J
You're quite safe! I have nowt to do with them. Having 3 grandaughters who enjoy using my paints( wate colours only mind!) and kick me out of my shed when they visit is quite enough sometimes. But now there is a boy, it might be easier to instill some interest.

Henrik, you must have the patience of Job, congratulations to both you and your son, why not get him to enter this GB, I could find something in the stash for him if you would like too, Gnat ? http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy113/Jockney007/image_zps286a3623.jpg Cheers Pat
paganpete
Great start Dylan! Your hand painted canopy is a heck of a lot better than mine (I have to use a mask for this kind thing these days)! That is a big kit to start out with, good luck and keep up the good work - really good start. Good one Dad for helping to bring the next gen through - and teaching them that in the future we will all be paid in kits and paint. hgbn
Thanks for the offer Pat. But to be quite honest I think it is best for him building on his own pace. He isn't ready for specific paint jobs. He loves bright colors on anything. Metallic green on a F-16 and stuff like that. I can see he have his share of fun building his stuff, which is the important part. I don't want to pace him since this is one of the very few things he can find calmness with. We often sits in the build room as we call it. My son, his younger sister and dad. and have a good time, all of us. Only bad thing showing the children how to build is the huge amount of glue that disappears without an trace Better see if I can get a gallon deal somewhere Edited January 26, 2014 by hgbn

hgbn
Thanks Pat, it is really kind of you. The only kit which he has any intension doing realistic is this one http://www.scale-rotors.com/galerie/bilder/files/gallery/bk-117-revell-00.jpg which he bought for his birthday money gifts. I have of course ordered the Danish Medevac decals for him. Still waiting for those to arrive. Then he can build (with help) the exact same Helo from his favorite tv series. He is really looking forward to this. This is your thread and I don't want to shift focus away from Dylan's build. sorry for the side tracking

We had friends round tonight so no modelling done by Dylan I'm afraid, however tomorrow night it's hairy stick and humbrol and no excuses.

Wolwe82
Nice work Dylan so far and nice canopy frames. Its not easy and also i know the kit, the lines on the canopy are hard to see sometimes. What camo do you ll use for this? Czechoslovak C-3A or making german Si-204?

JOCKNEY
Evening All It's been a proper west highland day today, absolutely peeing down, so I managed to drag Dylan away from the Xbox to do some more of the Siebel. Now plan A was to mask up the aircraft to get him to paint between the tapes. Then having thought about it we went for plan B which was paint the aircraft in one colour and then only mask up the edges for the other one. Yes I know what you're thinking but you are going to end up with paint everywhere, well 2 things come to mind, first he has to learn as we all did, and second keep reminding myself whose model this is ! http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy113/Jockney007/image_zps1903e8a0.jpg http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy113/Jockney007/image_zps470a98a0.jpg http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy113/Jockney007/image_zpsd8c19432.jpg http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy113/Jockney007/image_zps51bbd6ae.jpg http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy113/Jockney007/image_zps5259e555.jpg I know I'm biased but I'm really impressed with how neat it is and how he managed to paint round the windows. A couple of lessons learned for both of us, don't dip the brush too deep or you get paint on mums table, no matter how hard to try to avoid it, so if you do, wipe the brush on the inner part of the tin edge not the outer. Yes I know its obvious now, but having only said wipe the brush on the edge of the tin....... you can guess the rest. Second colour tomorrow, props & yellow band then decals Cheers Pat

JOCKNEY
He's going to kick his dad up the behind to get him to build the Henley and.... Henrik's (hgbn) son and Dylan are going to try a GB within a GB, and build Gnats together, however I have to find 2 in the stash first ! I hope a junior GB within a GB isn't against the rules, I throw myself to the feet of Mish the merciful and hope Enzo & Paul are ok as well. I look forward to putting the Siebel on the Gallery
hgbn
Pat and everybody reading this. Food for thought. A yearly group build independent from all other GB's like the KUTA dedicated youngsters. .
Speedman
That's looking really good A lot better than my early paint jobs! Although I was a bit ambitious with my first, an Airfix B-17, way too much silver for one boy to handle...
JOCKNEY
That wouldn't be "A Bit of Lace" by any chance would it ? It was the same with me, I bought another one recently and the decals are missing, I'll have to put a note on the wanted board you never know your luck. Another very wet day today, so optimistic of a finish, watch out the gallery here we come !
