Selwyn
This Meteor is in the RAF museum at Cosford but pictures from when it was in the St Athan collection show it in overall Light aircraft grey with dayglo bands and a Malaysian "roundel" on the tail. Can anyone confirm it actually flew in service in overall LAG/Dayglo bands (i'm assuming 1 or 2 ANS service)? I assume the Malaysian marking appeared when it was used as a maintenance airfame at Saints, but does anybody know what was the tail letter or marking of this aircraft in service? All the pictures I can find are of the aircraft at St Athan or repainted for the RAF Museum. Many thanks, Selwyn
John Aero
WS843 saw service as a NF(T)14, (14 aircraft converted ) at Stradishall (1 ANS and 2 ANS at Thorney but these joined the 1ANS later) and which is where it will have picked up it's LAG coat (with Dayglow). Dave Fleming
I suspect it's a preserved scheme. It was WFU in 1966, just as LACG came into use. This pic at St Athan in 1969 shows her still in Aluminium http://www.aero-pics.co.uk/fighters/Meteor%20NF%28T%29%20Mk.14%20WS843%20St.Athan%2020091969%20D20405.htm The RAFM notes say the Malaysian marking was applied by students at the SoTT by 1971 - perhaps painted in it's grey by then. http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/documents/collections/1990-0689-A-Meteor-NF-14-WS843.pdf
