what the difference between the Su-9 and the Su-9B?

were do you get the 2seater canopy from?

I don't know of a Su-9B (Bombardirovschik?) version; I was referring to the 'regular' Su-9 which has the NATO designation "Fishpot-B".

Trumpeter will issue a Su-9U, the 2-seat training variant of the Fishpot. But it's a rare version of a rare aircraft. So I thought why not using the canopy to get a Su-7UM. Then you can use the Su-7 single seat canopy on the Su-9U fuselage and obtain the single-seat Fishpot... maybe...

Don't get confused between the Reporting Name and the Soviet designation.

The Su-9 prototype was given the ASIC (NATO) Reporting Name of 'Fishpot-A'

The production Su-9 was ASIC Fishpot-B (there was no Su-9B).

The two-seat trainer (only 50 built) was Maiden

The Su-11 was Fishpot-C

Oh, I now understand (hopefluly)!

you want to build a 2-seat Su-7 from KP model using Trumpeter's second cockpit and canopy, and use the KP canopy for doing a single seat Su-9 (wich you could be already now... that part got me puzzled)

what about just changing the wing assemly? how similar are the Su-7 and -9 fuslages?

thanks for clarification

german wikipedia says that

the prototype Su-9 was called T-405 or T43

the early Su-9 series were just called Su-9 (Fishpod-A)

and later/ main series production was called Su-9B (Fishpod-B)

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suchoi_Su-9

likely they are wrong...

the English site shows nothing similar,

sorry my mistake!

Yes, only as a "mental exercise" though...

Swapping the wings around may be another way, however the difference in surface finish might be noticeable (even if the Su-7 surface becomes very nice after a general sanding) and much depends on the way the parts breakdown is handled between the different kits.

The shock cones are surely different and probably the air intake diameter, and the tailplanes are in different positions (IIRC, lower on the Su-7 and on the centerline on the Su-9, but it might be the other way round). Other differences ought to be small potatoes such as aerial type, number and position.

But I repeat, just wondering if it kinda sorta might be done.

maybe this is already going off topic, but:

took a picture of the currently available Su-7, Su-9 and Su17 kits in 1/48

IMG_7279_1_1_zpsoe9gjeyb.jpg

as bonehammer pointed out, the Su-7 and Su-9 fuselages differ in several ways, but general layout is the same. wing mount will be a problem as the Su-7 has the stubs molded on, whereas the Su-7 does not.

I added the Su-17M4 (or Su-22M4 if you prefer) to show the enormous difference in the rear fuselage diameter that thick rear fuselage (albeit with a different , the R-29 engine ) was used on all export Su-22 up to the Su-22M3

so my plan is to chop up some of these fuselages here to convert them to something new Su-22M3 of the Hungarian Airforce! maybe there is a way to do a Su-20 as well (Al-21 engine, i.e. slim fuselage, but straight not kinked down front)

OOOOOhhhhhhhh!!!!! Look what showed up in our inbox today! Off to the casting shop.... Note this is the master 3D print, these are still coming as individual items:

RSP148004 - Su-9/11 Wheels

RSP148005 - AL-7F Exhaust

RSP148006 - Su-9 Cockpit

You can see some of the product numbers that are on the casting blocks printed with the parts...

Test fitting the cockpit, and also showing the other parts of the engine tube (since they had less detail we used a different 3D printer). These are being cast as you read this and should be ready for the IPMS show.

OK but...

Beware that the OEZ Su-7 (if you're going to use that) is not 100% correct in the engine area, which ought not to flare in its lower half as the kit does. The Su-9 looks better in that respect, but if you use that, you'll have to re-position the tail planes.

Personally, I'd either live with the mistake (replacing just the exhaust area) or try another way eg turning some plastic pipe of appropriate diameter; at € 30, the Fishpot is rather expensive as an organe donor...

Arf! :Tasty:

Finally have some of the last pieces for the Su-9 cockpit nearing the finish line. We have the instrument coaming that is so badly missing from the kit as well as the start of the seat. I expect to show more of this shortly. We also are working on the instructions and fitting for the cockpit. Folks we really are pushing forward on these. Not only are we ready to sell them, we are really ready to get into projects beyond this one!

Okay, so indeed, there is progress on the Su-9 front too. The seat is coming along nicely. So are the instructions for the engine! We are working on it guys!!!
