Nice to see the F4U-1D from Hobbyboss. I was wondering when they'd do the earlier Corsairs.

Still amazed that Trumpeter or Hobbyboss haven't done a Mig 25 though..........especially as the KittyHawk one isn't exactly brilliant.

They seem to design and co-operate on all the big stuff for Trumpeter. They have a selection of 1:18 scale aircraft which started off as pre-builts and are now being released as kits. I've just bought their 1:35 Diamond T tank transporter also being released by HobbyBoss, and their address is in California.

That is a bit of disinformation, not sure where you got it.

I've spoken to the owner of Merit International. Wasan Plastics is the parent company to several brands including Trumpeter, AA, MiniHobby, Hobby Boss, and others. Merit International has been selling Witty Wings (prebuilt models produced by Wasan Plastics) and wanted to expand into large scale models. Wasan took the Diamond T from Hobby Boss (don't expect to see it released) and several 1:18th, 1:16th, and 1:200th scale kits from Trumpeter. It is strictly a business arrangement and Wasan Plastics doesn't own Merit International. The R & D done by Trumpeter has been used for Hobby Boss releases. This same R & D is now used for Merit Productions.

I hope this clears it up a little.

Regards,

as the thought of doing a 'cut and shut' job on the Italeri Su-33 and Su-34 kits...

Take one Airfix Su-27, mix in a little Italeri Su-34, stir for a few hours........

flank_53.jpg

If the Trumpeter Su-33UB is half decent, there are quite a few WIF's to ponder.....

A Su-33ECM 'Growler', a Su-33AEW with an Erieye-style radome above the fuselage, a Shipping Strike variant - all were mooted at one time...

I got the address from the box off the merit diamond t I have in my hands. My mistake.

The address is correct for Merit Productions. The disinformation that has been going around is that it is a joint between Trumpeter or Hobby Boss and Merit and that the kit will still be released under the Chinese brands.

Very nice indeed - I think you've got my creative juices going! A Chinese ECM one sounds very appealing..... :hmmm:

Hi Flankerman,

Take one Airfix Su-27, mix in a little Italeri Su-34, stir for a few hours........

Oh yeah, a bit of modelling and patience! More to the point, it's the cost of a 'cut and shut' project as opposed to the convenience of the Trumpeter kit. Like yourself, I just hope it captures at least the silhouette and subtle curves... Super work on that kit and the others on 'Flankersite'.

I wonder how they have arrived at the conclusion that the Coast Guard's HH-65 Dolphin should be released in the AFV's 1:35 scale?...

Why not 1:72, one wonders, considering the lack of Dolphin kits in this scale?

(I'm not mentioning the 1:48 scale simply because the same helo is expected from Kitty Hawk in this very scale)

Certainly one or two items that catch the eye there.

As for the standard of Merit's kits, a friend of mine has built a couple of their large scale artillery pieces, and has a third awaiting attention. He is very pleased with the standard and detail.

The the FAV the child depicted above?

Don't know what's happening....it keeps changing between a child and the FAV

Put a post on their Facebook page last night asking will it actually happen and inviting anyone who wants to see the FAV to "like" the post. Will see how that goes....

Nice one Allan. I got the Revell boxing really cheap and a correction set as well (longer fuselage, wheels, tailplains and ejection seats) but there are still lots of problems - like the engine shape. Anyhow - someday I will build this.

Rene

Wish you all the best with your model Rene.

Given that the Cold War was still quite warm and, the wealth of information we now take for granted was not available at the time, I think Esci did a pretty good job nonetheless. If I recall correctly, the Blinder kit was produced mainly with the aid of photos.. I'm therefore not surprised there are accuracy issues. Obviously we now know the faults but, regardless of accuracy or otherwise they have certainly captured the menacing but beautiful lines of this machine. I was certainly surprised by the size of the thing!!

I think this kit must be judged in the context of the era in which it was produced. It's very easy to condemn it now with the benefit of hindsight ( and a lot more available info!) . I've got two more and will happily build them (warts & all!!)

Damn a 1/48 MiG-21UM just after I got hold of the Nemoga conversion!

A new A-37 is very welcome, as are the F-106's.

The star for me though will be the Be-6 if it finally does get released.
