Me 163 Komet STGB?

I have a long time fascination for this small, fast and violent rocket powered fighter, the Me 163b. Having just read Mano Zielger's old book "Raketenjäger", and with the new Meng kit arriving, it has been on my mind again a lot recently.

I think this machine deserves a dedicated STGB (I didn't find an old one). There are a good number of kits in different scales out there, and the a-version should also be welcome.

Anyone else interested?

I'd be up for this one.

I seem to remember as a kid there wasn't a model of this around (was living in New Zealand then) so I built one out of balsa, wasn't too bad either! I don't know what happened to it!

Seeing as it's so small it will be a big scale version for me!

I have the Academy 1/72 kit with some CMK goodies so put me down for this please - I also recall having the "a" version in the stash at some point - was it a Special Hobby offering?

cheers

Great, our little group is slowly growing. Would be nice to see the a-version as well. Special Hobby have indeed done it, should come with a Scheuch-Schlepper with the early air bags according to Rob de Bie's excellent Komet site: http://robdebie.home.xs4all.nl/me163/models.htm

At the moment I’m thinking of either the Hasegawa 1/32 Me-163B or the Dragon 1/48 Me-163S-1 just to be a bit different.

Or if I can find one a A+V Models Me-163C, I can get a 1/72 but would rather the 1/48 version, they’re so small I’m scared the carpet monster would get it! :D

I guess at the slow rate this is going I'll have plenty of time to decide! Lucky we only need 15 to get it through......I think we have a good chance.

would we counter the Ju-248 in this build, it sort of was to be ultimate version and if I'm right in my thinking really the Junkers version of the D model?

I am inclinded to go with the Dragon 163S as 1/48 will go with all the other stuff I've got.

The Ju 248 (and therefore the Me 263) would be OK in my book, and judging by other STGB's it shouldn't be a problem, but that's where I would like to set the limit.

In the other direction I think we could also allow the DFS 39 and possibly the DFS 40 experimental "Nurflügels" as they are much related to what became the Me 163. Not sure if there are any kits though.

I have got a Revell 163 lying around and also a Czech models 263. so I will have to make a choice now. Luckely if this GB goes ahead then it will be in 2015. Time enough to think about it.

Cheers,

Checked the stash last night and I have the "a" version and mine is by Condor, (MPM offshoot?), and also stumbled across a PM DFS 194 - would this qualify?

I mixed up my prototypes above, it was the DFS 194 I was thinking about, not the DFS 40. I think the DFS 39 and DFS 194 would be fine.

I've got the old Dragon 2-seater Habischt (sp?) trainer on hand, plus the Meng kit... could be tempted, but might have to be reminded nearer the time

If a reminder is what it takes I'm sure we can provide that ;). Great, I'll add you to the list.

I'd be in. Dragon or Trimaster, probably with a Scheuch Schlepper.

I've got the old Dragon 2-seater Habischt (sp?) trainer on hand,

That'd be Habicht (Northern Goshawk), and AFAIK the Me 163S never really was assigned that moniker. Seems to be a misinterpretation of the Habicht and Stummelhabicht (with chopped wings) Sailplanes that were also used in trainig of pilots for the Komet.
