Attack 1/144 Shenyang JJ-5 - Completed

The Pakistan Air Force's No.1 Fighter Conversion Unit operated FT-5 trainers (export version of the JJ-5) 1975-2012.

The kit is very basic having no cockpit and a solid wings with no tabs. With the parts off the sprue you could easily believe this was resin rather than an injection kit.

My PC had a minor "brain fart" and did a double post on the 6th :mental: So I'm using the "double" to update it.

11 Jan: the wings are on and I've modified the tip of the tail as I wasn't happy with the profile. I cut a section out, glued in some card and sanded it to shape.

I'm pretty unimpressed with this kit to be honest, if this is an example of Attack's quality I'll be avoiding them in the future. The engraving is good, the fit is good and the decals are nice and sharp... But the research and instructions done by Attack are decidedly unimpressive.

Several lumps, bumps and aerials are AWOL, the Pakistani Air Force paint guide is completely fictitious (although the box art artist got it right) and they instruct you to mount the 23mm cannon on the wrong side! This kit retails for £8-10, for that I expect a manufacturer to do their homework. I don't mind making corrections to parts, errors can be found in most kits but when there are so many obvious errors it really annoys me. I'm glad I managed to get this one cheap on eBay!

The tailplanes are fitted, I've fitted the cannon on the correct side ;) and made the bump that sits to the rear of it as well as the bump on the starboard side of the intake. I also fitted the inner sections of the main gear doors.

I've added the main gear legs and the rest of the gear doors, I replaced the very small outer doors with card as they looked far too thick. I've added the gear actuators with parts from my Eduard CS-92 that I've not used so that saved me having to make them from scratch :)

I've painted the "cockpit area" black before gluing the freshly masked canopy on. Before I prime it, I'll make the large blade aerial thing that sticks out of the starboard fuselage just under the canopy and glue it in place.
