Pete in Lincs Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Link to pics of Middle Eastern lightnings. Found on Hyperscale.com Including one that looks like it's in a pub garden. Enjoy http://www.network54.com/Forum/149674/message/1388347754/Arabian+Lightnings Pete 1
Silver Fox Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 53-686 is at Norwich Aviation Museum though it does look a bit like a pub garden from that shot.
Dave Fleming Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Ti McLelland's book has some pics of the camouflaged ones

Giorgio N Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Interesting pictures, thanks for sharing. There are also some pictures of the lesser known F.2s initially used by the RSAF, haven't seen many of these
chaddy Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) That reminds me of the day, back in 1981, when two of those blighters did a low pass on a bunch of us epats enjoying a day off at the beach. Edited December 30, 2013 by chaddy 1
Tom Cooper Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Two Lightnings can be found at the RSAF Museum in Riyadh too. A lovely restaurated single-seater can be seen on one of photos here: http://luftwaffeas.blogspot.co.at/2012/01/air-force-museum-riyadh-saudi-arabia_17.html ...and a two-seater waiting for its turn here: http://luftwaffeas.blogspot.co.at/2012/01/air-force-museum-riyadh-saudi-arabia.html 1
Martian Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Thanks for the link, that's a pretty cool set of pictures. Martin
Greg B Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 There was one on a plinth at Ali Al Salem and it looked rather worse for wear. There were also 2 sitting in a dump at the back of the airbase in 98 and there were in an even sorrier state. Heart breaking....

The one on the plinth by the front gate was still there in 2003, but still in a sorry state.
woody37 Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 One picture has over wing rocket launchers, never seen them before. Would make for an interesting build variant
carlstavros Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Nice pics, thanks for posting. I remember visiting Marine Salvage in Portsmouth in the late 90's (I think) and saw most of the ex Saudi Lightnings all stacked up awaiting their fate. I wish I took some photos. Cheers, Carl.
Giorgio N Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) The one with the overwing rocket launcher/tank combo is Kuwait's 53-418 that carried the civil markings G-AXEE for a the flight to the Paris Bourget Air Show in 1969. The picture shows the aircraft in that occasion with the usual plethora of weapons that could be carried. The launcher was a French Matra JL-100. I wonder if this was really ever used on the Saudi or Kuwait Lightnings ? The only pictures I've seen with this weapon are all taken at exhibitions. The same weapon canhas been seen under the wings of Mirage IIIs from a number of users Edited January 5, 2014 by Giorgio N
