DominikS
Hi Everyone I'm planning to build as many Spitfires from the Battle of Dunkirk and the Battle of Britain as possible. And although I have some books with photos I think I still need more, especially the Battle of Dunkirk. That's why I've decided to ask you fellow modellers for help. Could you, if it's not a problem for you, post here or send me on my e-mail (dominiks3 at wp.pl) photos of this superb fighter. I'll be very grateful. All the best Dominik PS. The photos are not going to be published anywhere unless permitted. Edited December 26, 2013 by DominikS
gingerbob
Sorry, but you're asking a far too broad question- as many as possible from the Battle of Britain? That should only be a thousand or so, at an extremely rough estimate (which, upon checking, is remarkably close). Some diligent searching on the web in general, and on Britmodeller, FlyPast Forums, etc, will turn up lots of photos. Not to mention consulting MORE books. I don't mean to be off-putting, but I think you've got some basic homework to do. For Dunkirk, if you haven't already seen it, this book is a good place to start for history, though not particularly for photos. bob
wellsprop
I agree with Bob, There are far too many photos to be emailed. I understand what you're saying though, I tend to find that the images easiest to find are the images that are ALWAYS used for BoB so they are quite common. Anyway, I highly recommend the IWM archive, I use it very frequently and it's massively useful http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/search?query=spitfire%20battle%20of%20britain&items_per_page=10&f[0]=mediaType%3Aimage Airliners.net also has a very large database and an advanced search Ben. gingerbob
One other point- you'll see plenty of photos labeled "Spitfires during the Battle of Britain", but if they have the Sky band around the fuselage, just forward of the tail surfaces, they're NOT from that period. bob
DominikS
Bob I know that my request is quite broad. I think I should ask for help with the Battle of Dunkirk Spitfires photos. I have the book you've mentioned and Battle of France Then and Now which I had read before I wrote here. I would be very grateful for the photos of Spitfires from Dunkirk period.
