Rabbit Leader
This question is probably best answered on some Aussie forum, however as I'm only linked to Britmodeller I might as well try you knowledgable folk. Just getting a little too excited about the new Airfix Tiger Moth and was searching the net for some possible schemes. I kind of fancy VH-UZV which was used pre-war by the Royal Qld Aero club before it was impressed into service by the RAAF. Link below. http://www.edcoatescollection.com/ac1/austu/VH-UZV.html Does anyone now the colour and I would guess matching registration letters of this Tiger Moth? Cheers.. Dave. Phil Evans
Hi Dave According to a 1938 Brisbane Courier Mail article the club colours are blue and red. As I'm useless at deducing colours from black and white photos I haven't a clue if that's what the Tiger Moth has on it. Cheers Phil
Rabbit Leader
Thanks Phil, Blue and Red - it's almost impossible to determine. There are a number of other photos of various aircraft they used, however not one of them state the fin colours. I'm pretty sure the Queensland State Cricket team were wearing Maroon caps even as early as 1938, so perhaps it could be that as well. I'll still keep searching, but thanks for your reply. If you spot anything else - please drop me a line. Cheers.. Dave.
John Aero
McKay's Tiger Moth book gives a different build number (3508 and RAAF serial (A17-619). Stuart McKay is a founder member and secretary of the Tiger moth Club. I doubt that the Tiger was finished in the club colours prior to dispatch from UK but it is possible. So the colours 'could' be Silver with Black reg (very common colours of pre-war light types) and the stripes in Dark Red/ Maroon. Please let us know if you find otherwise. Harvs73
You can ask on Aussie Modeller forum for info such as this as there are heaps of knowledgeable people there that can answer these sorts of questions. Some of them visit BM as well but why not go to a closer spot? http://www.aussiemodeller.com.au/
