I know, but i needed to differentiate them from the standard armed variants for table purposes

I couldn't mark them as 'D' type, as they were not completely equipped with fuel tanks...

This post helps with that.

For what it's worth the VIII wing is also stronger than that of the stop-gap IX, being effectively the same structure as the XIV wing. That doesn't show on models though. The only two-stage supercharged Griffon Spitfire with the original-strength wing was the PR.XIX.
