Hi Procopius,

I am sorry I can't help you, instead here is a picture from the passenger seat of an Auster IIIF that I took last Friday.

Cheers,

Daniel.

P.S. Turns out I do have some of what you are after, VF693, VF498 of 1903 Flight and WJ358 of 1913 Flight, PM on the way I have included a couple of pics below as well of TJ249 photographed at Iwakuni, Japan sometime in the late 40's early 50's.

You could try contacting the Museum of Army Flying at Middle Wallop, I know they have a small display about Korea, including the flight there from Japan but the archive is likely to hold more information.

I recall seeing a photo in a book about the conflict. It was of an Auster what appeared to be in Dark green /dark earth camo full colour 'D' type roundels and white serial number .No lo- vis those days; fying alongside a Cessna O-1 Bird Dog which was also wearing D type roundels and standard US Army serial number on yellow!!

I think this one is a Korean War Auster AOP.6?;

Hope it comes in handy. ps- nice find re the old magazine article,..very interesting and those figure `6' style aircraft bays are totally new to me,..didn`t know that Austers used these in Korea!

Daniel,....great pics of the Japan based Auster and Dakota. The Dakota is particularly interesting,...have you any more pics of this aircraft?

Cheers

Tony

Hi Tony,

I can say the same for the pic of VF547, thanks for posting it. As to the Dak there may be more, I'm going away for holidays soon so won't have time to check for a few weeks, that said when I have time I'll check if there's more of it.

Cheers,

Daniel.

I was at Middle Wallop briefly last year. There's an Auster AOP6(?) there which I took pics of but I also found these photos on the wall. I was mostly after pics of the Cessna Bird Dog in British markings.

Sorry they're just photos of photos but it's a start.

Fort%20George.A10%20dispersal.jpg?dl=0Here is a picture of Auster 7, VF 591, parked in the dispersal at 1913 Light Liaison Flight at A10 (Fort George) in 1954. I am ex-RAF and was an engine mechanic servicing this, Austers 6, VF 516 & VF 547 and Cessna L19A. The picture is not very good, at the time I was only just starting to hone my photography skills, that is, if the picture comes out of Dropbox!

Just tried but no picture - Sorry!

Tried again using DropBucket, but still no joy - seems a very complicated way of adding pictures to a post, which is a shame as I have a few more Auster6/7 VF 516, 547, 591, pictures that may be of interest

Charlie,

If you can send me the link I can host it on photobucket or similar for you? I'd be fascinated to see it (Having a bit of an obeseeion with the L-19 and the Auster flights!).

It needs to have a distinct URL that can be linked to - unfortunately the forum software doesn't like dynamic links. This was due to past hacking where the hackers used photo uploads to attack the site

The 656 Squadron website covers the Auster flights in Korea as well:

www.656squadron.org/

The Cessna/Auster pic mentioned above is in this thread:

I leafed through an old Aviation News issue recently and it had an article on the AOP flights 1945 to 57 or somesuch, IIRC by Ray Sturtivant. It had a pic of the "RAF Bird Dog" accompanied by an Auster taken in Korea, and there may be more pics. Info (brief) will likely be included in the text. I have put it back in its box, and luckily, I know where I can find that box - do you want me to have a look at ? Pic quality will not be great, however, as it's on the newsprint style paper that was yellow when fresh from the printers.

In Part 3 of "The Sharp End" in FLIGHT dated 3 July 1953 there is an interesting article covering 1903 AOP & 1913 LL Flights in Korea, including a picture you have mentioned and some other pictures of the AOP & LL Flight Austers.
