Orange Hobby (http://www.orangehobby.com/) from China is to release its first 1/72nd injected kit: a Lockheed-Martin F-35C Lightning II. The initial release of this kit will include not only an aircraft but also a flight deck tractor. Note the PE set. To be followed.

I actually think this is a decent effort for a first injection kit. I like the cockpit detail and the bang seat alot. The shapes look good and option for folded wings is nice, but I can see this causing problems for those who want unfolded wings. I also really like the fact that someone is finally doing an F-35C.

There is only one major flaw with this in my opinion, and it shares this with the italeri kit (which I made the mistake of buying). And that is the stealth coatings for the access panels etc, its meant to be like a tape in real life, if you scale up what is on this and the italeri kit to 1:1 you'd have the equivalent of a 2 by 4 covering all the panels!

The painting mask set should be handy, I wonder if were now expected to sand off the details and use the painting masks instead to get the two tone effect on the aircraft. A nice touch but I suspect the sanding off and placing the masks will be a long time consuming and probably frustrating process, but it should be worth it in the end.

I've built the original boxing.  It's not a bad kit, but it's set up with both gear down and weapon bays open...and building them closed demands a lot of fit-and-file work.  On the other hand, it came with a full set of external pylons (including the gun pod) and a good selection of stores.

It's a matter of taste but I prefer the Hasegawa approach to the F-35 kits with the closed bays. In the past I have also built planes like the F-117, YF-22 and YF-23 with the bay doors closed, they just look better that way. Particularly the F-35 and F-22 look really awful to me with all doors open and their guts hanging out.
