Indian Navy Harrier T4

Recommended Posts

A project just for fun,as after the Sword kit,I left with 3 Heller kits to play!

I want to make Indian Navy T60,if I find the correct numbers needed.

That kit is snap-fit and with only 15 pieces with basic detail...

So the ...cockpit was painted black...

th_P1012549_exposure_resize.jpg

and started to shorten the wings and the rudder.

some putty here and there...

and a first primer

Thanks Martin!

I want to make it like an ex-RAF T4!

http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234930724-indian-navy-harrier/

So according to Dave, this one is Dark sea Grey/Light Aircraft Grey.

I found only two machines,655 and 656. Are there any other T4's?

I see also that the pylons are not from Gr3 but from Sea Harrier...

Need some help for the colors.

Can we confirm Dark sea Grey/Light Aircraft Grey of the T4i?

Also what color are the landing gear?

...pylons and belly strakes from other Harrier, aluminium tape for landing gear covers, blade fairing from plastic and the characteristic doppler panel under the cockpit.

Hi George,

not bad at all considering it is a snap fit model (but you can get some excellent results out of those). Have I missed something? Which wings are you fitting on the fuselage? From another kit?

Anyway, it will look good when finished. Cannot help with the colours though!!!

Merry Christmas to all!

Jean,at the 1st post,I used the Italeri Sea Harrier wings to draw and then trim the Heller wings.I did the same to rudder.

@Houston.I like to build rare projects, and Indian Air Force have some great looking birds, including Harrriers.

I have many photos,but only 3-4 of ex-RAF T4s.

I know that at early Indian service,Harriers painted EDSG/LAG.

Later and after some updates, they paint them Dark Sea Grey/Light Aircraft Grey.

Finally they got a light grey overall.

Now at those ex-RAF T4s with the GR-3 nose,

most photos shows undersides as a dirty White or a very light grey.

Landing gear, seems to be Light Aircraft Grey?

th_Harrier34.jpgth_2356102.jpg

Only this photo of the same 655 shows clearly Light Aircraft Grey undersides, and its the one I want to build...

Using the above photos of IN655 as a reference,I painted with a base coat of DSG and then slowly build the final coat with Medium Sea Grey, leaving the Darker color to saw at many places like panel lines and corners.

What do you think? Is it ok or too light?

hey, it looks cool and even better for snap fit kit. as for the colour, it might be little too light but it can be diferent light conditions and if you ll be doing wash it can get a bit darker look. but for me the colour looks okish as it is:)

More progress with the decals.

I've used the ones from the Italeri Sea Harrier, but punched their centers because they're off centre..

th_P1012560_resize.jpg

So,I painted the centre white, brush some Future and I'll put the punvhed centers later with care...

Some other decals taken from the previous kit, while others be from spares.

The small IN655 and the big 55 on the sides, are for two Airfix Sea Harrier kits.

After the varnish i think she looks more closer to the real one...

Hi George,

your build looks really good. You'd never know you started with a Heller Click-clack kit.

Well done!

What's happening with your Cougar?

Cheers

Thanks Jean!

You will know that's Heller, when you see inside the canopy, the perfect......black color I used! :coolio:

Cougar will continue later,after Harrier.

That looks really cool. I haven't seen that colour scheme before. It's very attractive.

Did you replace the wings or just reduce the span? I am thinking of trying to use the Heller wings one day on a GR1 to model the one that won the 1969 TransAtlantic Air Race.

G'day David!

Thank you!

Yes,thats the reason I like this version!

I like it so much that maybe I'll do more detailed of one of my Sword kits again with this scheme...if i find the two "5" from two Airfix Sea Harriers...

For wings I just trim them with the help of an Italeri Harrier wing.See first post!

G'day George,

That is looking really good. You don't often see the two seat Harrier built, even less so in Indian markings, good job,

cheers,

Pappy

Good idea for correcting all those frustratingly off centre roundels, I might have to give that a go.

Also nice to see the old Heller kit made up.

Yes! Landing gear would probably be the usual BS381C 631 light grey, but LACG is pretty close!

Your model is looking great!

Thanks for your help Dave!

I saw a video at youtube with Indian Harriers which clearly shows white wheels! Too late...

As the model is nearly finished,I dont really know how to correct paint the front cold nozzles.

A dark metallic color with no weathering?

Any help here will be great!

Cheers,

George

Some more thinks before finish.
I made FOD covers for intakes. I made 4 handles,but in reality there's 3..
th_P1012584_resize.jpg
in the photos, there is clearly a white insulation around canopy.
I made this using two blades taped together. With the help of a steel ruler i cut on a white decal paper those strips.
th_P1012587_resize.jpgth_P1012588_resize.jpg
With carefully measuring and micro cutting the wet decal strips on the canopy,I got a sharp white surrounding on the canopy.

The wing tanks are from Italeri Sea Harrier and temporary stick to pylons with patafix.

Next I 'll weather more the exhausts...
