WV908 Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone knows of 1/72 scale decals and a conversion set for Canadian Avro Lancaster KB976 in MK10 AR condition as delivered to Lynn Garrison in 1964 or in her final transatlantic flight condition to Strathallan in 1975. I'd be looking at using Airfix's excellent new tool BI / BIII as the basis for the model.
goggsy Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Bumping this as I'd like to do this version as well. Any ideas?
Paul J Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Not available any more but Leading Edge did a lovely set some years ago for FM104 that survives in the Toronto Aerospace Museum. I don't think anyone did decals for your chosen subject. Try Hannants Xtradecal range, I think there was a Canadian option included in one of their sets but again don't think its for 976.
Test Graham Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Try this for their 17 different sets for Canadian Lancasters http://www.canmilair.com/products.asp?cat=57 I have the Leading Edge set (aircraft 104) and the Arrow sheet (aircaft 123 with dayglow bands) and don't need both.
WV908 Posted December 22, 2013 Author Posted December 22, 2013 (edited) That's the decals catered for then ( In addition to the earlier link - http://www.canmilair.com/proddetail.asp?prod=033 ) - looks like I'll be scratch building the fuselage plug and modifying the kit turrets Edited December 22, 2013 by WV908
-Neu- Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 (edited) Belcher bits has probably the best set... here is a PDF of what you get on their sheet. http://www.belcherbits.com/lines/decals/bd18.htm http://www.belcherbits.com/images/decals/bd18combo.pdf I'd chose them over the Canmilair set in a heartbeat; far better decals at a much more reasonable price. It looks like you can build one of the later versions of that aircraft with this set: You'd get the Ensign, three KB- range serials, Large RCAF underwing, a 9 for the underwing (which can be a 6 too), the red arrow that goes across the fuselage, Roundels, the Maritime air command wording, and squadron marking. It will be cheaper than the other two options, and if you ask them, they might give you a second set or print off some of the stuff you need (like the number 7) This is a normal MR version I'm just finishing up right now using their decals and the revell kit: Edited December 22, 2013 by -Neu- 3

-Neu- Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Thanks Goggsy. I actually just finished the aircraft... here are a few photos. 2
goggsy Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Spot on, I may be tempted to go for this, it's nice and simple but effective. Great metalwork btw, ALCLAD I assume?
justplanecrazy Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Here is where I am at with mine It's been an on off project for years. Nick
Learstang Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Better than mine - I've just got the decals and the kit parts, including parts to make the nose extension. Nothing started. It would be nice to see someone attempt this particular Canadian Lancaster. Regards, Jason
justplanecrazy Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 My next step with it is building the auxiliary intakes on the fuselage sides, I'm using bits and bobs from the spares box for these. Nick
