SaintsPhil
Good morning BM, Has anybody used the above paints? On a whim I bought the 'super silver' from eBay but my Japanese is a little rusty so I've no idea how to use it... From a couple of YouTube videos I've seen it looks like it's a buff able paint, but I'm not sure what it should be sprayed over etc. Any help greatly appreciated before I blindly have a go.... AndyC
Hi Phil I've used the Mr Metal Color. Is that the same stuff? If so, I have painted it over Halfords primer and/or acrylic top coat and buffed with either an old toothbrush or micro-fibre cloths - quite good. I've not used it as a sprayed finish as I use it to hand paint exhausts etc
SaintsPhil
Cheers Andy, Yes I think they're the same, or at least a derivative. The videos I saw were Gundam or warhammer style figures, so we're brush painting them. One guy did mention that they block airbrushes due to the pigment size. I was unsure though as the one I have seems very thin, almost like Alclad, so I wasn't sure if it was pre thinned. I found a post on the net somewhere stating that the chrome silver needed a gloss black base, again like Alclad. I've got some scrap bits set aside to do some trials on so I'll report back if anyone else is interested! Phil
gregax
Mr. Super Metallic is way finer than Mr. Metal color (hence the price). You can thin it with Mr. Color thinner (leveling one is best). There is no need to buff it as it is really shiny. Of course, that depends on the surface preparation. I shoot it over Gunze GX gloss black and i will never try anything else.
SaintsPhil
Thanks, was it your F-84 that I commented on with the very shinny metal tanks? That's what prompted me to ask the question if it was! I'll try the gloss black on a test sample. Phil

Does the Mr Super Metallic paints actually need thinning, they look very thin in the pot as they come? Does it need a clear coat on top, I would normally use super clear? Julien
As a warning I put klear over Mr metal Color aluminium and it went a steel colour! Julien

I like my paints to be fairly well dilluted as i like to build layers of paint instead of just one heavy coat. And yes, you should use superclear. I always use Mr. color clear coats. Klear is just a floor polish, and i really don't understand why so many modelers are willing to take risk of destroying a model with it. I only use it to dip the clear parts in it and thats all...
