robvulcan
I've enjoyed following your progress. Good work. And yes, I do like the hunter. It looks pretty cool. Okay not the first thing I'd want to see waking up after a long night of curry and pints. (is that how you say it?) Thanks very much and the hunter looks more like its been attacked by someone who has had a curry and a few pints.... Coming along great Rob. That Merlin really looks the dogs doo-dahs, I like the nice oily sheen you have managed to get on it. Brilliant stuff buddy, keep going as you are doing and I have no doubt it will be finished in time for Santa's delivery sack. Many thanks I have made some more progress but nearly 2 weeks on and I am still working on the internals.... New game for me this. Still not finished either... So I have been working on fitting out the engine with with holding frame and painting the bulkhead. The Airscale stuff has improved the panel. It could be alot better to be honest but I have not got the time to drill everything out so I just put them all on with microsol and in person it looks nice and I am happy with it. all the bits are coming together slowly......................... I have built the fuel tank but I am not adding it as it does not fit very well and affects the fit of the fuselage plus it resides between 2 bulkheads and will be completely unseen. so I will paint it and have it as an external item. Thanks to Mr Melchie and Wolfpack for the advice with the airscale stuff. and here in the cockpit sides I added a few placards. I could not see many on reference photos and they are not the same style but something is better than nothing and they have definitely lifted the look of the cockpit well indeed. Right more coffee and back too it.. Cheers Folks.
Wolfpack
I just put them all on with microsol and in person it looks nice and I am happy with it. That say's it all. No-one elses' opinion counts in the end, only yours. W
robvulcan
That say's it all. No-one elses' opinion counts in the end, only yours. W I really like your idea of drilling it out. It would have looked so much better.. But I have to prepare my lessons to teach students both private and for my new job with music for you. Plus Christmas shopping, Doing my end of year accounts and tax returns. and many many more jobs so I had to cut a corner here. Its only when given close scrutiny the HMMM noise happens.. But from normal viewing its looking good. Much better than the original decals. (I was wondering about a future build if you could drill out and back light the instruments.. Be nice to do a vulcan with glowing orange dials.. That would rock. You do need the eyes of a spider to see the airscale stuff. pretty incredible print work there. Cheers Wolfpack. robvulcan
Update time. I should have done this earlier. but here is the quick mask for the engine cage. Using a lot of blue tak and a foam sheet. This is my first time doing seat belts so I hop I get it right. I am used to kits were your happy that its got at least a seat. This again is a new and pleasant also fiddly expiriance. This is fun now I have to paint them, fit the tiny piece of glass to the instrument panel then I can sort the back wheel strut out and hopefully then close the fuselage. I can only hope then that its a straight forward build. Cheers Rob

robvulcan
Cheers Rob...looking forward to updates Hopefully there will be some soon. I looked at it and muttered to myself a little then went to eat a steak and chips with mushrooms in garlic.. yum. maybe I will actually get some work done in a short while. I have been lazy.. All I have done is paint the seat belts grey primer and put something looking like tan on top. now to do the silver bits. the wheel and then I can fit the stuff and close her up .......Unless someone wants to trigger the OCD gene by telling me something else I can fit to improve things further like cables wires tubing etc....(should not have said that should I....) Andy Mac
Looking good Rob, she's coming along nicely. I'm liking the wash you've done on the cockpit and engine bulkhead, what did you use?
robvulcan
Looking good Rob, she's coming along nicely. I'm liking the wash you've done on the cockpit and engine bulkhead, what did you use? Hi its Games workshop citadel wash. They use it for figure painting to get shadows. Its really good stuff but wierd in how it works. Its like a clear black or brown (they do blue red and all sorts) it takes a while to dry but leaves a really matt finish. It can be removed but its a bit stuborn and maybe a baby wipe with mild alcohol would help. It can be set with a floor polish or varnish. Here I tried the new one I got from lakeland (good stuff ) I think its called underwoods. But some klears will loosen it if you brush to much so brush over it thinly and quickly. You can over coat it and its gets darker and darker but again if you work to slowly you can disturb the first coat. It is however very nice to use and I use it a lot. But don't use it in the same way you would a Flory wash its not the same kind of wash at all but does lots of stuff that Flory wash does not. This is more like a clear black paint that has a strange viscosity that allows it to naturally blend into detail. Its fantastic through an airbrush too. If you want to create smoky dirt patches like on a Tornado GR1s Fin or weather afterburners Its amazing stuff as the underneath colour really shows through more like you can see through dirt. Its great go get yourself some but Experiment on stuff first. I always add a bit of Windsor and Newton Flow Improver to mine but its good right out the tub. Cheers Rob hope this helps

robvulcan
Finally and update.... Right then I made the rear wheel assembly not much going on here but there is 7 pieces when complete with the wheel. I have added and painted the seat belts now I painted them a light brownish colour with silver highlights and the citadel wash again. Then there is this piece which I have painted dark silver per instructions. Everything else is green though ! I have now started fitting the interior parts YAY !! Right now a coffee.. nimrod54
Great work on the pit Rob. Looks as though the tail-wheel will be a well detailed sub-assembly too. Won't be long now before you start to button things up. Enjoy your well deserved coffee break. I'm off to look for some old Reheat seat belts for my Harrier GR1, I have put them away 'safely' somewhere and can I find them???? Noooooo.

Yep - fun tho' donchathink? Love that slightly shiny/oily looking finish - is that the result of the citadel wash?
robvulcan
Yep - fun tho' donchathink? Love that slightly shiny/oily looking finish - is that the result of the citadel wash? Hi mate. if its in the pit its citadel was with a think over coast of underwoods floor polish from lakeland (£5.99 a bottle) Later I was thinking of giving it a spray over with mat or satin. The black parts and the engine were painted matt black then given a dry brush of citadel boltgun metal with a little W&N Flow improver added then given a citadel wash on the engine (over the mail silver parts) then again overcoated with underwoods floor polish, Klear, astonish floor polish, new klear, and humbrol Clear work as well. The Citadel washes are a useful tool to have but they are more like a paint than a normal wash like Flory and harder to remove they are great through the AB to weather with as they are clear colours and layers can be built up subtly. colin
Looking very nice Rob, I was looking at the Lakeland stuff a while back, it's a milky white if I recall, didn't buy it as I thought it was the same as the Astonish stuff I had. Come on get some sprayed so you can give us a review. Wonder if it's the same as Quickshine that Jonners got from there a while back, as I think they stopped that one Colin

Wonder if it's the same as Quickshine that Jonners got from there a while back, as I think they stopped that one Colin Hi Colin I was at lakeland again yesterday. They have a few including Quickshine and many other floor polishes. the quick shine is twice the price and size. I had a whiff of this and it smelled like xtracrylics so I bought it as I guess it must be proper latex acrylic which is tough. I have been using it for glosing up stuff and its great so far I will do I review on it soon mate. I doubt it will do for decals what the old Klear did, Never found anything that does that the same Can't understand how they decided the new formula is improved its certainly not. I am yet to dip a canopy yet but if you can think of things I should Include for the test let me know. Astonish is good stuff but I dunno about through an airbrush but its good to apply with brush or sponge. Though this stuff seems better as its stickier and not so watery. colin
Thanks Rob, That's what I found with the Astonish stuff, it was hopeless to spray, too thin and watery and didn't really stick, would puddle up quickly.Went over to Alclad aqua gloss which is brillant but costs the same near abouts as your stuff for 120ml, they must be making a killing from us modellers
