YF-16

Hi all,

Picked this one up for a Fiver at SMW. The kit is 1976 vintage but still makes up into a decent F-16, especially for a decent representation of the prototype flown by Neil Anderson. I saw this aircraft at Mildenhall Air Fete in the 70's during its demonstration tour, never forgot it!

Managed to hand paint some of the accessories provided with the kit and also add a couple of decals just as to test as this kit is Year of Manufacture 1976. All seems reasonable so will crack on!

A couple of F-4s, added also to the stockpile.

Lovely, always good to see F-16 coming together, and the Phantom is one of my favourite aircraft. The Eurofighter is absolutely first class, please get it finished and show us the final pics :)

Indeed - a great result you get from the old Revell kit. I build this one too when it came out. Painted it flat black with dayglow red ordanance (put everything on the stores which was included) as far as I can recall :-) Bock in those days when I had only one kit at a time and when it took me just hors to finish a model

Very nice YF-16, is it the old Revell 1/72 kit ? I remember I had one ...hummm...1978?

Yes, the Time flies.

Tonka

Hi Tonka,

Yes it is the original 1976 boxing of Revells YF-16A and the decals still went on after some 37 years storage. OK its not the most accurate of this aircraft, incorrect nose, serials etc. but for me its a nostalgic build that reminds me of trundling down the old A1 at 5.30am, in my old Hillman Hunter, way back in mid 1977 for the Mildenhall Air Fete at which a similar aircraft took part in the display flown by Neil Anderson, who has sadly passed away.

Happy days!

The model looks nice. Just a little naming correction: it is rather an F-16A FSD, not YF-16. YF-16 were two prototypes (72-1567 and 72-1568) with smaller overall dimensions, no radar, different nose gear door and smaller ventral fins. Your model looks like FSD (Full Scale Development) or early production F-16A. Its painting scheme is similar to YF-16s and the first FSD, but the number is fake - it should be 50745 (for 75-0745 aircraft).

YF-16 - note smaller nose and ventral fins, different nose gear doors.

Please can you share xtracolor code of red and blue used? Thank you very much

Hi there, yes the Red is X031 Post Office Red and the Blue X030 Roundel Blue...note re the Blue I added some Humbrol Gloss Black to darken it down a bit.

@ Rav, yes you are quite correct the Revell kit does represent a Production aircraft and not one of the two YF Prototypes. But for me its not a problem as all i'm doing is rekindling old memories of years gone by when I was at Mildenhall (1977) and was lucky enough to see this amazing (for its time) aircraft 01568 fly. A couple of years previous 01567 visited RAF Alconbury, but missed that one.

Just for info.....did you also notice the arrangement of the front landing gear door, it was originally split....ooops you did sorry!

Just about finished Revells F-16 in prototype Colors. Its an old kit, certainly not up to today's standards and contains mistakes. But fun building it and a reminder of those heady days back in the 60's and 70's.
