Recommended Posts

O.K.

In moment of madness some 4 years ago i began an F.M H.P Hampden, it has had the longest gestation of anything i have built, i have just finished installing cowling intakes and main U/C units and am beginning the transparency process,

In the meantime i have finished many models, as you can see in this pic i have a prototype Spifire about finished ( Tamiya conversion...) and yes i will buy the new Alleycat job, a two seat Mirage ( to be RAAF) and the most wonderful Airfix Javelin

I will finish the Hampden during this Year or whats left of it

Cheers all

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok here we are quite some time since my initial post, delays due to life getting in the way

I have installed clear parts and this took considerable effort, cutting, shaping , sanding etc, i used two part epoxy and non-fogging superglue

When that was done i masked said canopies and had another in a long line of mental fit throwing episodes as i accidently broke a couple of them off when masking !!!!!!

Well ....later....when the straight jacket was finally removed i proceeded to put some paint on the model, i am using Tamiya Nato black as i like the finish and hue it gives, after an initial application it revealed some nasty seams i could not see under the grey with my ageing eyesight so i sanded and repainted and this time the whole airframe was covered to reveal yet more blemishes, so once again sanding and filling and sanding then this morning i applied another coat and here she is !!! It will be finished in VC winner Learoyd's aircraft and will be bombed up etc

Next i will apply the green, could it be possible i may actually finish her after all this time ?? Yes the kit is difficult and has many issues but it is buildable, one needs patience and persistance by the truckload, but what has delayed me more than anything is the fact i am building many other models at the same time and the temptation is to turn to a simple job rather than a headbanging one !

Anyway i have much more work to do before this one is completed

I have just taken delivery of the Magna Balliol which i intend to do a review and online build unless beaten to it ??? but will wait until the decals are on my Hampden and Javelin before starting it

I asked a close friend who is a modeller i have known for many years who likes similar subjects why we do this to ourselves, his answer was ''Norm....were mad''

OK here is an update , i have airbrushed the brown and green using gunze paints but will need to amend demarcation lines etc, also the black needs attention, the paint is still wet in this pic

Colours look off on screen due to me not processing the the digital white balance properly, but you get the idea right ????

She is beginning to look like a Hampden !!

More soon

Cheers

I am watching this one with interest as i have this kit in my stash

The last Hampden i built was the old contral vac kit which left me traumatised for many months after :hanging:

Have to say Norm its looking pretty damm good mate and i am looking forward to seeing this one finished.

delays due to life getting in the way

No, Should be the other way around.

Modelling should get in the way of life.

Much more fun.

I once had the mad idea of using an Airfix Hampden,

Widening the fuselage, Slightly Bigger engines,

And a 1/2 inch inboard increase on the wingspan.

To make it 1/48th, with just 2 crew.

Oh, And fitting floats. A crazy what if, I suppose.

It must be these pills.

Nice one, Norm. Keep Blitzing it.

Regards

Pete
