riffraff
Does anyone know where in Canada she is going? And is it going to be in flying condition?
bentwaters81tfw
She won't be flown, too rare.
SleeperService
Rare she definitely is but she's need a complete strip down, inspection and rebuild to flying condition which would cost a fortune and take years. That's without the CAA getting involved and adding another couple of zeroes to the budget! Slightly OT but I do wonder why there couldn't be a centre in the UK building replicas of rare aircraft and restoring old ones. It would be good training, cover a broad range of skills, a good earner and provide valuable, skilled workers. HM Govt could use their financial clout to ensure that end of service aircraft responsibilities are passed to the centre who could expand to act like the EAA in the US to register and inspect these planes. With close liaison with the BBMF it could work quite well. Something similar could be done for AFVs.
Paul J
I presume it will be out in Canada on loan. And also the fact that several Canadian squadrons flew the Tiffie in combat post D-Day so it would make sense. I imagine it will go to the brilliant museum at Rockliffe just outside Ottawa! tonyot
I wouldn`t like it to fly anyway,....not with that Sabre engine up front,.....they were not exactly safe were they and todays Health & Safety people would have a fit! We would only end up losing the last surviving Tiffie in a crash due to engine failure or a fire. Cheers Tony

Aeronut
as seen today... When I saw it on Monday the port wing tip was still in place, although the nav light cover was clouded and broken. So presumably the wing tip has beeen removed to allow repairs.

Cheers Tony I'm sure with modern materials stuffed in there, reliability could be drastically improved. Don't the Merlins these days benefit from a modern sleeve dropped in around each piston ? Sure the chap at BBMF told me that. Do agree though, wouldn't like to loose the last one. How the hell can there be only one of these, it's just so wrong
