dbostream
For the last week or two I have been building the Lotus Esprit Sport 300. I am a big fan of British cars and the Esprit was a favourite of mine during the 90's (still like it ). The engine is mostly finished and I am now working on the chassis. The engine has not been glued to the chassis yet, just put it there for the photos. This kit has been a joy to build so far, especially compared to the E-Type I built before this one.
roymattblack
WANT ONE!!!! I didn't know this kit existed! I had a gold Esprit S2 many years ago and loved it. In all, over the years I've had 5 different Lotii - my '67 Elan S3 was Colin Chapman's own car! How I wish I still had THAT one - AND the log book! I'll be watching this build with mega-interest! baldrick
Is that the Vauxhall slant 4 engine, a v8 cut in half first fitted in the FD Victor?
dbostream
Engine and chassis are completed; body and interior next.
roymattblack
Is that the Vauxhall slant 4 engine, a v8 cut in half first fitted in the FD Victor? Only the block was ever used for design purposes. It was long a misconception that the Lotii of this era used Vauxhall engines, in the same way the earlier 1548cc Elan and Europa supposedly had Ford Anglia engines. The 2 litre (and later 2.2) Lotus 907 engine was cast especially for them, based on the Vauxhall slant-4 block, but heavily modded. It was ultimately nothing like the Vauxhall lump. The head was exclusive Lotus, twin OHC, big 4-valve per cylinder, ported and highly tuned. I had 5 different Lotii over the years and had numerous people telling me my Elan and later, JPS Europa were naff as they had Anglia engines. Faces changed when they tried to keep up on windy roads. The same applied with my S2 Esprit. Mind you, it was always well known that Lotus stood for Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious.... They were right. Roy. Iain Ogilvie
Is that the Vauxhall slant 4 engine, a v8 cut in half first fitted in the FD Victor? As Roy says above - no! Will be watching like glue! And Roy - as said elsewhere, I beg to differ on newer cars with regards to Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious! roymattblack
Iain - I mostly had the 'older' breed of Lotus. Troublesome, but I loved them all. I used to get the biggest kick on earth driving past shop windows in my Europa - and seeing the reflection. Poser, yes, ok..... I was young, but so what????? Nice build of the kit BTW..... More updates please. Roy.
cosmosman
Will be watching this with interest. Have one in stash and I must finish the 1/16th scale Bandai early version too.
richellis
Nice build, looks a cracking kit. Nothing beats a classic British sports car does it!
dbostream
Here is a preview of the painted body, it is not 100% finished yet. The interior and floor are painted as well.
Madhatter
I had no idea there was even a kit of this around! How old is it? I always like this Lotus more than the others. Now I'll have to go find this kit now - thanks a lot.
pigsty
How old is it? That style of box is from the early 1990s. The kit could be a bit older.
dbostream
It says 1994 on the box and one of the pieces had 1993 or 1994 molded in. There is a similar Esprit (Lotus Espirit Turbo) available on ebay but only if you live in the UK I am afraid. roymattblack
Looking really good so far. Love that colour and finish. Roy.
dbostream
I have started on the interior (satin black) and floor (flat black). You can also see a preview of my poor excuse for a wooden instrument panel; I will touch it up a bit before I consider it finished. Happy holidays everyone! dbostream
Progress has been slow lately but not at a stand still. Instrument panel waiting to be glued on. Bulkhead window has been glued in place, The interior is very black but the headliner and sun visors will be light grey. Radiator fans are ready. ...so are the roof and head lights. Next I will finish the interior and paint the window frames flat black.
Mafney
Looks like your build is coming along very nicely, great work! Good to see I'm not the only one who uses Revell enamels too! Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person still using them, as they don't seem to be very rated by many users on here. The results your getting look great though! dbostream
I almost exclusively use Revell enamel, I prefer it over Humbrol. However on this build the body (Revell's yellow is ugly), headliner and sun visors are Humbrol the rest is Revell.
