Madhatter
OK, time for an update - it's been a while. My pink LED's arrived on Friday night, so I spent some time last night installing them. I couldn't do anything else until they arrived, but now things are moving along again. The vents at the back there are actually painted Tamiya dark iron - not that you can really tell: The carrier deck is now finished and painted. Hopefully, it;'s close enough to the correct color., I have sprayed some random replacement tiles around to break up the monotonous colour. And, even though it's hard to see, there are subtle variations to the base colour to add effect You can just see the lights on here. I need to replace a couple of fibers though:believe it or not, this side light (and a couple more up front) is actually green - but hard to tell in these pics. I will try shooting some pics tonight to give a better idea: Anyway, that's all for now. I'm going to start externally detailing the hull shortly but may wait until the bridge has been cast in clear resin and constructed before I continue. As always, thanks for stopping inMH
Madhatter
Well, may as well add some pics of where I am up to as of now. Spent quite a while yesterday filling in large seams and gaps. I have been using the tried and true method of filling in the gap with putty, letting it dry, then rubbing a cotton bud (Q-Tip for the non Australians) soaked in nail polish remover. Best way ever to achieve a a smooth surface without loosing surface detail: Work has finished on the smaller "hangar bay" on the right side. I added some FO to it for some interest: Will make a start on the hull detail tonight. It's now starting to look like a ship now See you soonMH
Madhatter
Well, it continues on with the start of the hull detailing. I'll try do some more tonight but after that, I am away for 3 weeks, so this will more than likely be the last update for this year - unless I do some serious work on it tonight and achieve something worth while taking and posting pics of. It is quite tedious cutting into thirds lengthways a strip of .10 x .20 styrene which is why my updates are so minimal most of the time. Still, the effect I get from it is very pleasing to my eyes, so I keep on going.Anyways, as always, please feel free to critique or commentTill next timeMH
Will Vale
Your eye for nurnies is just incredible. Especially the forward section with the diagonal cable ducts, and the recessed bays. Wow.
Madhatter
thanks Will right side is now finished and have made a start on the left. Both sides will be as busy as each other. Unfortunately, this is as far as I will now get for the remainder of the year as I leave to go on holidays tomorrow morning. Thanks for tuning in guys and have a safe and happy Christmas and a prosperous new year!Kind regardsSimon

Madhatter
greetings one and allIt's been a while since I updated this thread but I haven't had as much time to work on it as I should - I've been finishing off other projects.I have finished the other side and have begun the underneath of the ship. The insect-like looking thing in the middle is only the start - it won't continue to look like that by the time I'm finished with it.Will update again soon. Am about to start on the superstructure now but that'll be easy compared with the rest of the ship See you all soonMH
Madhatter
man I am posting a lot today...I was asked for a size comparison for scale effect by someone on another forum, so I thought I would share it here to: Cheers Simon

Jockster
Pretty awesome Simon, this puts me in mind of the artwork that used to be in the old starblazer comics late 70s/early 80s. For those who don't know, they were the sci-fi equivalent and size of commando comics. Always loved the spaceships and yours puts all those memories back in the old bonce! Nice build! Kev. Pete in Lincs
How you fit in time for this, What with your full time job as a brain surgeon. Or is that repairing individual nerve cells in insects? Amazing detail. I'm very impressed & looking forward to the end result.

Madhatter
Ha! I wish I made as much money as a brain surgeon But thank you for the kind posts guys Well, the detailing is pretty much all finished now - just need to get the final lighting installed and have the bridge section cast in frosted clear resin to help with the lighting. It's this part that will take a while - at least a month - which is when I envision I'll get it back. Once I have it, it'll be installed and then the paint work can be finished. I'm going to make a start on the hull as soon as the weather settles down a bit and isn't so bloody hot - my shed is like a furnace at the moment. So, on to the final detailing shots. This may need to come in 2 parts as I have a fair few photos to post. First up: the "super Structure" (for lack of a better term) Part 2 coming up
Madhatter
and the following pics are mock ups of the almost final ship: Well, that's it for now, but once the paint goes on I'll post some more Till then, thanks for stopping inKind regards Si
Will Vale
This is mind-blowingly good. Is it all scratch, or are there some kit parts (e.g. the tripod missile launcher thing)?
Madhatter
Thanks Will! There is some scratch in there but mostly kit parts are in use. I also tend to modify kit parts. The sensor on top of the tripod is a match of different parts (it wasn't supposed to be that when they were designed - but they work).
Madhatter
Greetings allI have started the painting and finally finished the tedious task of masking of the replacement panels. This took quite a while but I think it'll be worth it in the end.Forgive the bad photos - it was late and I took them more for my own reference so I know where I placed them. Next batch of pics will be much better quality - sorry for these onesThanksMH

Madhatter
Got one of the last pieces of electrical work left to be done finished tonight, so am quite happy about that: But (very surprisingly) what I'm most happy with so far is the paint work. It has come out so much better than I hoped it would. I normally suck at painting, but this is really working for me for once! Sneak peak of what it'll look like before a gloss coat, wash and weather and then the matte coat. I know the pictures still aren't the best, but it's night time here now so one has to make do. Anyways, thanks for watching Si
Will Vale
That does look good. I thought the grey paint looked a bit rough and spattery in the earlier pictures, but the red is lovely and smooth. Plus the slightly rough finish of the grey adds a nice quality to the little revealed panels.
Madhatter
thanks Will! OK, I'm going to post some pics for some honest feedback here. I am trying to emulate what it would have looked like after spending so much time dormant in the scrap pile (from my VERY limited knowledge, this ship was brought out of the junk pile to fight again) Please let me know if it looks crap or is fitting. If it never ever looked like that, please tell me so I can strip it back and repaint it.I want it to look like it hasn't been used in years and has seen a lot of previous action: As I said, I would appreciate honest feedback as I have only seen snippets of this show and even then the ship appears for a few seconds and then it's gone. To much weathering or not enough? Cheers Simon
